You wonder how Sen. Patrick Leahy cleans off the slime following a round of confirmation hearings as chairman of the Senate Judiciary Committee. On any given day, Leahy could be coated with some of the most vile mistruths, slurs and lies polluting American public life.

...the university decided to have Leahy as our commencement speaker... It could be worse, at my son's commencment we will get the President of the World Bank, James Wolfensohn, who I'm sure will tell all us "rich folk" that we need to share our wealth with the "unfortunate poor" in less developed countries, and that if we'd just stop being so selfish there'd be no more terrorism, no more famine, no more AIDS, etc. etc.
Of course...Mr. Wolfensohn will neglect to mention his own huge pile of cash, that he obtained through rather questionable practives...

Ronnie White's record was in no wise distorted - he was a miserable candidate chosen by Der Shlickmeister because of one qualification alone: skin color. Make that two qualifications: skin color plus left-wing ideology. If skin color alone were enough, Clarence Thomas would've breezed through his confirmation hearings.

Every appointment that was considered by the Judiciary Committee during the Clinton years was sent to the Senate for a full vote. In the case of Ronnie White the Committee voted that he wasn't qualified but still sent the appointment request forward so that the Senate could vote up or down.
