San Diego high school judges religious presenation with liberal bias (My Title)

Well, I just got off the phone with my mom and guess what? California has done it again. More liberal bias, more religious persecution, and anti-freedom-of-speech antics!

My sister who is a senior at Scripps Ranch High School is required to do a "Senior Exhibition," for her 90% of her grade for a certain class. This presentation was to be about organizing a large event. The event could be anything the student chooses, but has to be something that will have a relative large attendance.

My lovely sister being the good conservative Christian girl that she is decided to plan for a Jewish Seder Feast, since we're in the Easter Season, and passover is right around the corner. Those of you not familiar with a Jewish Seder Feast it is a highly organized religious event in commemoration of the Passover in early Jewish history.

She told her teacher what her topic was going to be, and what event she was going to organize. The "englightened liberal" (oxymoron) teacher said that she wasn't sure about this topic, and that she would have to "grade her harder" than other presenters. This teacher obviously not "enlightened," also said that the requirement was to be an event that has already happened once in time. Never mind that this tradition has been going on for some 3000 years, so I think it's valid that it has come and gone already. Some other female students were planning the Cheerleader Banquet which technically isn't for another month, however the teacher had no problem with that. All sorts of other topics were fine, but the Passover Feast required strict scrutiny and was to be judged on a harsher scale due to it's Biblical origins.

I told my Mom that if anything else comes of this, such as censorship or the like, there may be possible legal action.

This is my first actual very personal encouter with liberal religious challenges, and the more I think about it the more enraged I become.

Tell her to change it to a Ramadan observance and she will get an A.

Just one more reason why public schools don't work. It is well past the time to privatize all schools. Make the schools accountable to the parents once again. If I had children of school age, I would hold down as many jobs as necessary to get the funds to send them to private schools.

Have them contact the Pacific Justice Institute. They are the firm prosecuting the school in California for forcing kids to attend a pro-homosexual play "Cootie Shots" without telling the parents.

OK, you're a Christian, planning a Jewish Seder... Personally I can see why the teacher might say no, if I were a Jew I'd feel offended by this. You don't conduct the sacred rituals of others, they don't belong to you. To be perfectly honest I think what you were planning was irreverent. Would you want Jews conducting the Lord's Supper?

Enjoy your self inflicted martyrdom.

I think the problems arise because the Seder is generally carried out on a small scale, in individual families' homes. Not much at all goes on in the synagogues. Maybe the teacher wants her to pick a large-scale event.

She's not going to conduct the ceremony, just plan for it.
