Adding insult to injury last week, the House approved a bill President Bush wanted -- for whatever reason -- to allow people in the United States to continue breaking the law. The bill, approved 275-137, would give amnesty to about three million illegal immigrants.

Again, this is little more than politicians looking out for their own welfare at the expense of the law-abiding American people. They want the Mexican vote. Some Mexicans, on the other hand, want to rip off a few States for their own country.

That's it in a nutshell, actually: The underlying point is simple. If foreigners and politicians get a free pass to break the law, those of us who pay government's bills damn well should, too. When the central government is so negligent it forgets "job one," why should any of us care what their laws are? They don't.

He was battin' a thousand until this.

Who is representing the American people in this matter?

I don't want to take this off topic, but...

How about that $40 billion increase to the budget of the Department of Education? How about that $300 billion dollar healthcare plan? How about the idea that he's about to sign the CFR?

I don't think he's been anywhere near 100%. I agree with the War on Terrorism, but beyond that I'm a skeptic.

And there is the rub. They pay lip service to the Constitution, whilst persueing agendas that enrich their power and financial bases. Hugging the Constitution doesn't get you elected...

True. But he also has to appease the liberals along with step out of his father's shadow. It's only the beginning of his second year. Cut him some slack, and give him time to make a name for himself self Domestically as he has world wide with the War on Terrorism.

Plenty of Republicans go to Washington. But once they get there, it almost seems as if someone sits them down and has "the talk" with them about their true obligations. What emerges are these odd, Lott-esque characters, full of sound and fury but delivering no tangible results.

I obviously agree with Fiedor....and I agree with you....EXCEPT I question the need to even discuss CFR from the President's side unless and until he signs it.

Its my understanding it is not what he had in mind as indicated during the debates....I could be wrong. I'm sure you know I'm not a fan....but I believe its important to criticize for what is, not what might be.

Regards

I cannot bring myself to be silently comfortable, as are the Republicans I helped elect, on being nationally portrayed as a gleeful torturer of my fellow man.

I do not: want to starve children, lynch blacks, burn churches, rape the rainforest(jungle!!), throw the old into the street, deplete the ozone, kill baby seals, pollute the air, poison drinking water, etc...

To this day, I'm not sure if I am most angry with the Dem.s for advocating this hatred, with the press for happily distributing it, with my neighbor for believing it, or with the Republicans for allowing me to be misrepresented.

Since they will not represent me, I will no longer represent them. They can all kiss my @ss!!

Please remind me of the last example you can think of where the Democrats appeased the conservatives.  Just a few years back they backed a felon president rather than do what was best for this nation.  I think you're mindset reveals why liberal socialist policies are entrenched in this nation much to your own and my consternation.

Think about it.

I am way too doped up on cough medicine to even begin to comprehend your reply.

But you are right, the democrats never appease the Republicans, civility is all but lost on them. That's why we tell the president to be nice and us Freepers have some fun. Agreed. Let's all break some laws.

I sometimes throw in a reference to a contemorary issue in order to remind people to take action against it now, before it's too late.  All indications are that Bush will sign this bill.  I can agree that it's somewhat unfair to take Bush to task for something he hasn't done yet, even if he is almost certain to take that action.  Course it's unfair to us that he would even consider signing such a bill.  He should have been out front informing the public that it was unconstitutional.  The fact that conservatives don't educate the public is why our causes go wanting.  It's Bush's duty to lead.  That he isn't on this issue is in itself an issue for me.

There is a kind of freakish insanity behind this question.

We are not civilized because we put on pants and don't steal from, rape and kill each other.

We refrain from stealing from, raping and killing each other because we are civilized.

We are not civilized because there are a set of guidelines in some law books somewhere.

We have law books because we are civilized.

If in some psycho-Klinton wonderland it suddenly became "legal" for men to rape blond women in June, that doesn't mean that women would suddenly start getting raped every June. It just means that vigilante groups would start shooting the crap out of anyone who looked at women funny during June...

We obey laws because we enjoy living in a lawful society. Not because some government functionary is going to shoot us if we don't.

I take this to mean the liberals in his own party, not the Dems.
