I agree, sporting events are a complete rip off. Last time I took the my two boys and two friend to see a ball game I went for some hots dogs and cokes and one beer and it was 28 freaking dollars. Thats not including the tickets.

Never again.

...you are distracted by family, telephones, microwaves, etc.

To me, there's more distraction in the theatre:

People talking to each other as if they're sitting in their living rooms at home, (often loudly telling each other what is going to happen next in the movie.)

Babies crying and kids running up and down the aisles (even in R rated pictures where kids are not supposed to be.)

Cell phones going off.

Not to mention the sticky floors, the person behind you continually kicking your seat, etc. Going to the movies used to be a special event, and people behaved. Now there's just too much rudeness. It's a rare and special movie I'll pay $7.50 for and put up with all of this.

Like, oh my god! Like, movies in the Valley still cost $7.50! Gag me with a spoon! Ew, I must go to the Galleria more often!

(BTW: I have never been to your home of the San Fernando Valley, so my impressions are merely formed from cinematic classics of the 80s)

Well, it's a high price, but one of the things I *have* missed about Los Angeles since 1988, when I left, is seeing movies on opening night in Westwood or Hollywood. :( The teensy weensy little 75-seater theaters where I am now aren't a lot better than a TV. Give me the Cinerama Dome ANY day!

I have not been to a movie since spring of 2001. Why pay $8 to $14 for a movie I wouldn't pay $3 to rent

Anybody planning to see Mel Gibson's latest, "We Were Soldiers," you better see it in a theater. It's not going to be the same on video. And it's an incredibly good movie.
