that said I think that the rich and powerful howard stern's public humiliation of his lowly engineer is unseemly at best. Would you want to work for or with someone who does this?
I don't miss the Jokeman at all. Artie is just as good.
This is great! I vote for a H.S. wrap up everyday. I nominate you the official record keeper. I wish I could listen to it at work, but this is the next best thing.
If they don't, they're even bigger fools then Howard makes them out to be.
The Jokeman was more important than you might imagine. Hew wrote a lot of the material on the show. BTW, because of a comix story we did I knew Jackie's wife and had talked to her on the phone several times. She promised that I would be first person she would have sex with if she ever left Jackie. Jackie wasn't mad. He even sent me some kewl "Jackie Stuff" including an incredibly UN-PC Joke-In-The-Box.
No kiddin'!
And don't forget the child support - a fourth or more of your take-home per kid 'til the kid's 18!
Nope. I let an old girlfriend of mine dictate where we would have Sushi dinners.
HArdly - she pays.
Same with the girlfriend.
He did an HILARIOUS impression of the owner of the Cincinatti Reds! Marge Schott.
But I agree with you (I think): the show's Salad Days were when Billy West was a regular. Mahhhhhhhhj SCHOTTTT!
And when he'd talk to Howard's mother in a perfect imitation of Howard's mother's voice? Priceless.
Agreed. Jackie's jokes were the lamest I've ever heard. At least Artie knows his place, and doesn't try to make himself sound any funnier then he really is.
Jackie never understood that his jokes were nothing more then recycled ones found on backs of bubble gum wrappers.
Maybe I've just gotten tired of Howard (after 10-15 years of listening) but I barely listen anymore since Jackie left.
He was not only great with the skits and feeding Howard jokes all show long but he also provided a long history of things that the rest of the gang could bust his chops with. There was nothing like the dynamic between Howard, Robin, Jackie, Fred. Hearing them all do the "Jackie voice" used to crack me up every time.
In my opinion, Artie is very lame and adds little to the show except another voice - which may actually be important since Fred seems to never talk anymore!
Best of all was when West did Jackie's voice via the Jackie Puppet. Remember when the Jackie Puppet almost made Conan O'Brien cry on the show?
Billy West was an obnoxious slob - thank goodness. I think it was Yasmine Bleeth who looked like she was going to jump out the window one time during an interview when Billy wouldn't leave her alone with the Jackie puppet.
By the way, what's happened to Billy? He used to be sloppy, kinda heavy, etc. Now - when VH1 does the Ren & Stimpy re-runs - he's thin, well-dressed and neat. Did he, uh, "switch teams" or just totally go 180 degrees in his appearance?
Timmy the Cat. F-Timmy!!!
