Is it for for that or is it for visa's that have expired while still here? There is a difference.

You presume to know what Bush's critics would say if he inexplicably behaved like a conservtive and you're using that fantasy as an excuse for his carrying on the family tradition of global socialism. "Oh you people just hate Bush and would hang him from a highway overpass if he did something conservatives would like". Nonsense, child.

Wake up, young lady. Bush is not doing what Reagan did. He's also no more a conservative than he is a Texan. He's a typical republican which means he's a liberal with a twisted view of history, like you.

BTW, I voted for Reagan twice. I suspect that the first time Reagan ran, you weren't even born. You're getting your historical "facts" on Reagan from the same sources you used to write that ridiculous treatise on how everything wrong with the US government is historically the fault of everyone except the GOP. Pitiful.

It's quite simple really. Bush and the Republicrats did sneak this bill in. They even did it under a "suspension of rules".

Learn what you're talking about before you waste our time.

And for freepers out there, I strongly urge you to ignore this poster. The last time he was on a thread, the moderator took him to task for name-calling and abuse.

His favorite tactic is to start calling everyone racists in order to shift the discussion away from facts and toward emotion. Don't be sucked in!

[Then work to change the law if you don't like it]

Tell that to Bush. He is in a panic because our laws don't allow him to hand over everything Fox wants in a hurry. We want the current laws enforced. Some I like and some I don't, but the ones which provide penalties for illegal immigration and for hiring illegals should be enforced along with the ones which provide ways for immigrants to game the system. As it stands only the laws which allow illegals to get over are being followed.

I'm taking a chance replying to you because you appear to be an imbecile. Prove me wrong in my initial impression of you.

Sure the full text has been available online since its introduction. Darn few people knew about it, including you. When did Bush state to the news media that he wanted this passed? Having this bill presented for suspension of the rules most certainly was trying to sneak it in.

You're an immigrant yourself so you have a soft spot for other immigrants. Be aware that while the Spanish speakers that you empathize with are getting their way with their status, so are islamic jihadists who want to kill us. There is nothing urgent about admitting millions of Mexicans and South Americans. They can stay home or go back home until we have found and destroyed the enemies who are here trying to destroy us. The sincere immigrants who want to be Americans will have the best interests of the country they want to join at heart and will be willing to wait. Those who aren't concerned with their impact on the US don't belong here and should be forcibly ejected.

Drop this snide tone of yours about the left fooling everyone but you, Luis. I don't buy it and neither does anyone else with two brain cells to rub together. That's your cue to become furious and start your usual round of profane responses. Go for it.

You know full well that it will be used as a pretext to allow people who never had a visa at all to apply for one while staying here and working illegally. Why should anyone who failed to comply with the ridiculously lax requirements to maintain or renew a visa be allowed to stay? How many jihadists will skate away free and keep spreading their gospel of hatred and destruction after having been here for 10 years on a six month student visa? You think that maybe one or two might manage to be in position to arm and set off a smuggled nuke because they were allowed to pay $1,000 bucks to avoid deportation?

This isn't simply about poor Mexicans coming here to work. There are some very bad actors coming across that southern border with the Mexican nationals. Is it unimaginable that a few or a few hundred may be using Spanish surnames to cloak their identities?

Samir al'Harrabi alias Alejandro Cantu may be waiting for a certain container to arrive at the Port of Richmond or the Port of Wilmington bound for DC or New York. You want him to have a nice clean new visa for $1,000 so he can be here to meet the container and arm the Russian nuke inside it?

I don't. I'd prefer that he be caught up in a sweep of holders of expired visas and tossed out before he can do what he's here to do. Bush wants him to be able to buy a new visa application for $1,000.

Allowing one to request a visa here has nothing to do with citizenship or amnesty.

U.S. Code : Title 8 : Section 1154: Procedure for granting immigrant status

U.S. Code : Title 8 : Section 1325: Improper entry by alien

(a) Improper time or place; avoidance of examination or inspection; misrepresentation and concealment of facts

Any alien who (1) enters or attempts to enter the United States at any time or place other than as designated by immigration officers ... shall, for the first commission of any such offense, be fined under title 18 or imprisoned not more than 6 months, or both, and, for a subsequent commission of any such offense, be fined under title 18, or imprisoned not more than 2 years, or both.

Civil penalties under this subsection are in addition to, and not in lieu of, any criminal or other civil penalties that may be imposed.

Well... If they aren't getting visa's to enter the country in the first place you can't do a sweep to get rid of those who's visa's have expired.

I was asking an honest question. Does the new proposed law allow aliens to only renew expired visa's or does it allow those who got here illegally to apply here as well? I don't know the answer.

"Dare we be encouraged by this?"

Depends what kind of person you are, I'd guess.

There's what GWB says, & there's what GWB does (or doesn't).
The two things don't always necessarily jibe?
At least they haven't recently.

I'm not damning GWB, either; this sickening flip-flop mentality is shared by politicians L&R -- regardless the ideology.

I've learned (the hard way) that if I want my heart broken?
All I need do is put my faith in man; & it's even-odds to happen.

Put that faith in a American politician; and, it's guarenteed.

In North Carolina, INS is cracking down on illegals. Many were arrested at the Charlotte Airport recently. Food Lion and Harris Teeter supermarkets have dismissed hundreds of workers and others have quit following letters from the state INS offices regarding lack of matches between names and ID numbers of workers. They have expanded that effort to send the letters questioning the status of mismatched employees to businesses that have even one ID mismatch. This did not and would not happen under a Democrat administration.

Another initiative involves shutting down and arresting fake ID mills, particularly in Charlotte, where many illegals first access the state.

"There is nothing urgent about admitting millions of Mexicans and South Americans."

That's the spin, this bill does not admit "Millions" of anyone. This bill covers people who are married to American citizens, that means that an American citizen is looking to their government for help in keeping their family together. It actually makes it more difficult for employers to fill out paperwork for employees who are not physically here, something that the legislation as it previously existed allowed for.

This is not a blanket amnesty, it requires a US sponsor (read spouse) or a commitment by an employer.

So, no one comes and gets on welfare, and no one gets a free ride.

I find your arguement that by being an immigrant myself I have a slanted view of this both disingenous and insulting, and a sign that you have little to retort with asides from personal attacks.

BTW, I am not sure that you have two brain cells to rub together, you can't see the obvious.

Carter left the mess for Reagan, Clinton left the mess for Bush. If you can't see that, I would question your motives.

Right, pinkie. And when your doctor is giving you a prostate exam and you suddenly notice that both his hands are on your shoulders, then that's bound to be his finger in your butt because he says so, right?

You're a proctologist?

No curses? Maybe your last time out helped your attitude. My remark about your immigrant status would take a vivid imagination to construe as a personal attack, Lou old boy. Personal attacks are more in the line of you and your loyal Sancho Panza, WW.

Aside from this bill, Bush is very open about his desire to grant amnesty to illegals. Maybe he limits that to those who will listen to his execrable Spanish without snickering. Oh, and he surely also wants his offer to include any followers of the "religion of peace" who will claim to be moderate members of that cult.

Your boy Tio Jorge is going to go swap spit with his buddy Fox and sell the Southwestern states for a handful of beans, I suppose. You'll be cheering his superior strategery when he does. Maybe you'll wake up when the next attack comes and it's committed by jihadists who got to renew their 10 year old student visas or by moslems using Spanish surnames or stolen embassy issued IDs of murdered Mexican nationals. This is serious enough for you to drop your usual PC platitudes and take a good look at your hero.

Does signing up for this amnesty, allow the person to bring his wife, kids, his parents, her parents, his siblings, her siblings, his siblings children, her siblings children, here from Mexico, Saudi Arabia, Sudan, Egypt, etc? An employer can sign them up for this, even if the person seeking amnesty is not married to an American. Get it now?

From the article: "On Tuesday, the U.S. House of Representatives passed a bill that would allow thousands of Mexicans living in the United States to apply for visas without returning to Mexico."

LOL! Funny how you get caught in lie after lie.

No cuss outs, even when people like you enter a thread insulting posters rather than refuting their points.

You did it to Victoria, belittling her by calling her "child" and "young woman", it seems to be terminology that you are quite comfortable with, in your world women are not to be taken seriously I guess.

Then you come back with more remarks to me that are very short on substance but long on sarcasm. The funny thing is that you do this while claiming high ground that you do not possess.

BTW, you are a liar.

Your claim that the last time that I was on a thread I was taken to task by a moderator for name-calling and abuse is a deliberate lie.

Prove me wrong, or remain a liar.

Of course, you are now going claim that this post is a personal attack, in order to prove that, all you have to do is to substantiate your statement highlighted above.

Go ahead, I am waiting for you to prove me wrong, and to prove that you are not a liar.

There you go again Edd, *presuming* I take you seriously. I do find it amusing that one of the most presumptuous, narrow-minded and boorish posters on the forum accuses others of the faults that are fifty times as glaring in himself. I'd suggest you invest in a mirror, but I understand if you're afraid of the seven years bad luck.
