At least 39 United Way affiliates around the country have stopped direct community funding of the Boy Scouts to protest the Scouts' ban on homosexual leaders.

"I'd estimate these decisions affected 10 [percent] to 15 percent of the average income of an affected [Boy Scouts] council, and they've totaled millions of dollars. And when it happens, we have to find other ways to raise those dollars," said Gregg Shields, spokesman for the Boy Scouts of America.

Click here for nationwide information on how to locate and support your local Boy Scout Council. Also, see if your local United Way has stopped funding the Scouts.

Soucts lose funds over United Way ban. . .

I hope the United Way will continue to lose funds over their ban of the Scouts. Do NOT give at the office. . .make your voice heard. . .do NOT send checks for disaster relief to United Way. . .

. . .do not know of another 'way' save the 'mighty dollar' to send a message.

ps ". . .do not know of another 'way' save the 'mighty dollar' to send a message."

. . .conversely, that dollar not sent to United Way, could be delivered to the Scouts instead.

May the Scouts continue to prosper with their message and their goals.

. "The Boy Scouts policy is not discriminatory. It's been found to be legal, according to a decision by the U.S. Supreme Court."

That's a misstatement. It is discriminatory; SCOTUS found that the discrimination in question is permissible under the law because of the BSA's 1A freedom of association. New Jersey disagreed, but that's their problem, now that SCOTUS has reversed them.

The article doesn't throw in perspective the high-gear political campaign the organized gays have been running from five minutes after the SCOTUS decision came down, to cut off BSA funding in order either to pressure BSA to change the policy they had just defended all the way to the Supreme Court, or effectively to destroy the BSA, and allow the pieces to be picked up by gay-friendly orgs.

These developments may represent a high tide in public debate for the homosexuals' cause. The ecclesiastical scandals now mushrooming everywhere, despite Uebermedia attempts to spin the issues as "pedophilia" rather than outright homosexual mass pederasty, will probably cause people in responsible positions in youth programs everywhere to rethink their politics on this issue.

The double bind for the media elite is that they would like to make these stories go away on the one hand (like they used to do all the time), but on the other hand, the Catholic Church, as a "non-reconciling" conservative, Levitical authority, is an absolutely irresistible target.

My call: Expect the media A-gays to hold their hands over the Episcopalians, who are very close to "rolling over" on homosexuality (the gay seminarians have apparently won in North America, even if uncorrupted Anglican bishops continue to fight a containment battle in the rest of the world), and perhaps the Methodists, while continuing to pound the Catholics, Mormons, and conservative Protestants as hard as they can.

Screw the United Way. Arent they the same group that kept a great deal of the funds donated to families who suffered loss on 9/11?

Mr. Gregory added: "We do not fund groups or agencies that serve gays exclusively. But we do support a group called Center Lane that reaches out to gay and lesbian youth that are struggling with their sexual orientation."

Yeah, right. Tommy, have you met my Uncle Jack? He's a counselor with Center Lane.

Mr. DeCristofaro said each United Way is an independent organization and makes its own funding decisions

Double talk designed to hide a deep animosity to the Boy Scouts.

It is my opinion that the very best thing that could happen to the Scouts, is for them to lose all United Way funding (and involvment).
The association with the United Way has meant a reduction in performance standards to the point now were you can be an Eagle Scout and NOT have to have the Lifesaveing Merit Badge. Also it seems to me that the emphasis over the years has shifted from prepareing young men to serve their country, to fund raising.

My reply from the United Way...

Thank you for writing to United Way of America. We answer all Web inquires personally, but, due to the holidays and the backlog of e-mail, a personal response may take two to four weeks through February(of course it's already March)DUH!.

Since all United Ways are independent and run by local boards of volunteers, most of the questions that we get are better answered by the United Way in your community. To find any United Way, use the left-hand side of any page on United Way of America's Web site at http://www.unitedway.org/.

As with the Red Cross, I haven't supported the United Way for some time and will continue that tradition until further notice. I, not someone else, decide where my $$ go!

Amen, more privatization of the Scouts, and less "funny money" from the United Way. I NEVER give to the United Way at work, never have Never will!....What a sham. Private donations can and will support the scouting.

Mr. DeCristofaro said each United Way is an independent organization and makes its own funding decisions.

If one of the chapters funded a Klan chapter, I wonder if Mr DeCristofaro would still sing this refrain.
