Teacher-coach accused of molesting youths

REDMOND -- A 65-year-old Redmond schoolteacher and soccer coach honored by the city has been suspended by the Lake Washington School District and his soccer association amid allegations of sexual misconduct.
A 35-year-old former student now living in Texas told police last week that the teacher molested him and his younger brother while their teams were on soccer trips more than 20 years ago. The abuse, the former student alleged, continued over a five-year period.

Betsy Cable, a Redmond police spokeswoman, said the man came forward after learning the teacher had won the "hometown hero" award.
"He said he wanted to set the record straight," she said.
The alleged misconduct was corroborated by a second former player, Cable said, "but there is a stumbling block. The statute of limitations is seven years, so we can't make an arrest."

The teacher has coached youth soccer for three decades. But earlier this week his license to coach was suspended by the Washington State Youth Soccer Association pending further investigation. An investigation is continuing.

So let's see...the kid was what...13-14-15 years old, and the molestation continued for 5 years...that would make him what?...18-19-20 years old when it stopped?...somethin' fishy here....JMHO.

Sadly, such events are not uncommon. Parkersburg,WV has seen a state championship high school football coach accused in the past year while North Huntingdon, PA has seen a now deceased, award winning marching band director under suspicion. The moral is that parents must investigate the adults they entrust their children to. It is obvious the school boards will not do it.
