Islamic militant Ahmed Saeed Omar Sheikh, who was indicted Thursday in the kidnapping and murder of Wall Street Journal journalist Daniel Pearl, could face the death penalty if convicted. "If Saeed is found guilty of the crimes he is charged with committing against Daniel Pearl, he could receive the death penalty," Ashcroft said. A New Jersey federal grand jury charged the British-born militant with one count of hostage taking and one count of conspiring to take hostages resulting in Pearl's death. In addition, he faces charges in Pakistan, but there's no word yet on when he would be placed in U.S. custody for trial.

That guy deserves the death penalty. It seems that the Pakistan government may have been as assisting these terrorists. According to the March 9, 2002 edition of World Magazine, Pakistan may have given a list of American journalists in Pakistan to Pakistani militants who were looking for American targets. This may well have been how Pearl's murderers located and abducted him. We'll just have to wait and find out what happens. - NathanM

You gotta get him over here first, Mr. Ashcroft. Until then, this is all talk and paperwork.
