A delicate political line for Kerry

HIS MUCH IS clear about Senator John F. Kerry's dream of being the country's next commander in chief. To realize it, this JFK must first tame his own troops.

As usual, discipline begins at home. Kerry's wife, Teresa Heinz, is a serious woman with a serious agenda. She spoke long and seriously at Kerry's big Monday fund-raiser - and that was before she got up a second time to introduce her husband. About two hours into the event, daughter Vanessa Kerry took her turn at the podium, telling the audience she was allotted two minutes to speak. But, she said, just like dad taught her, she was going to take more time. And then she did, continuing the friendly but self-indulgent hostage-taking at the Boston Sheraton.

At this point in time there is no way America is going for a liberal Northeastern Phoney. Mr. Heintz can take his money and adoring fans and go shove it. You stay the course Mr. Bush.

Kerry, on the hand, is going to have to decide whether he is bold enough to say what Clinton and Heinz had no problem saying.

How long until the Globe throws Kerry into the harbor and endorses sinator hillary! for president in 2004?

It certainly sounds like a warning to Kerry to me.

Kerry's precious CAFE standards for SUVs got slammed yesterday in the Senate. I don't think he is going anywhere. Sounds like his wife would just be another Hillary too and I hope the country doesn't want that again.

Also, the cheap attempt to be the next JFK by now calling himself John F. Kerry is pathetic. He should be ashamed. Oh, I forgot, he is a Dem and they have no sense of shame.

''Isn't she a chip off the old DNA block?'' purred US Senator Barbara Mikulski of Maryland, one of five female senators who paid eloquent - but also long-winded - homage to Kerry during the mammoth fund-raiser.

To use the name of Barbara Mikulski and the word "mammoth" in the same sentence must be a Freudian slip of some kind.

Senator Hillary Rodham Clinton of New York delivered a stirring speech to adoring Boston supporters who treated her like a rock star.

Since this typical Globe swooning over swine, you have to ask yourself "Could this true and, if so, how?" The next question is "How totally corrupt, vile, self-serving and morally respulsive would a liberal politician have to be before the Boston elite would end the worship service?"
