Family's pay 10s of thousands of dollars to go overseas just to make sure they adopt a child and it cannot be taken away.... Baby Jessica probably did more to hurt domestic adoption than anything I can think of. That judge should have been tarred and feathered.

You are so right. A friend of mine knows someone who adopted overseas and quoted her as saying "Every day I'm thankful that there's two governments and an ocean between my baby and his biological mother."

My cousin and her husband have adopted two Korean girls. They had far less trouble doing this than when they adopted their foster son, who is black. They had the child from the time he was 6 months old, and it took until he was 3 years old to get the full adoption to go through.

All they have to deal with now is the ignorant morons who see them out with their kids and say stupid shit like, "Oh....pity you couldn't have children of your own." They do have one biological child, BTW, but being staunchly pro-life, when it came to having other children, they decided to walk the walk and adopt unwanted children.

They have also been at the receiving end of some stupid racist comments for having a "mixed" family.

Dont bet on the ocean protecting their child. I have run into more overseas adopted children who have decided to go back to their country of origin to live. Aside from the guilt when being picked whild others die.

That is probably the single biggest reason people adopt from overseas, the child is yours once the paperwork is done, no one can take it away.

PA especially has horrid adoption law, even if everyone is gung ho to get the adoption done and no one is contesting can take 6months or more to finalize.
