Good PR would have stressed the fact that, like Ivory soap, it was 99 44/100 pure!
Nevermind that distressing 56/100 of 1% that showed itself in the mass murders and slavery.

Does this mean that the Reds were "just kidding?"What Gorbachev is saying, or better yet, admitting, is that the leaders, Politburo, et al of the Soviet Union never believed in the validity of communism.
But it was the only system they could have that would help them attain their impossible dream...world domination.

Now if someone could only convince the Democrats

Communism was "pure propaganda" Mikhail should swing by the DNC next time he's in DC for a touch of nostalgia
To: tophat9000
Nah.... DNC will convince Mikhail that he didn't know what the real communism is.

Nothing new here. We and they (the Russian "Commies") have long known that the only true believers were and are in the West. Communism is called something else here now which allows the Michael Lerners, the Michael Moores, the Hitlery Clintons to disassociate themselves from the history of gulags and killing fields, but the feverish beliefs remain and are unmistakenly identical as those of Comrade Gus Hall.

It comes as no shock that I can't find this in the "mainstream" media.

Its as about as frank an apology for Communism as you can get from Mikhail Gorbachev. On the whole he seems to have had no regrets getting rid of the system. After all it was the Party that stabbed him in the back when he tried to hold the Soviet Union together. Its taken him a decade, but he's finally realized it was all lies. I wonder though if the Rats who would like to try it here, are listening.

Mikhail should swing by the DNC next time he's in DC for a touch of nostalgia Truer than you think my friend. The Dems are using the far left as their rallying point just as the Commies used their died-in-the-wool party members and cadre. Both are emotional, dedicated and unreasonable in their approach to any social problem. Just listen to Waters or Connors in the middle of one of their diatribes on the floor of the House and you can see the shadow of a dedicated commisar right behind them. There is no other way but their way, any opposition is evil and an enemy of the (welfare) state. Most of them got their training directly from 30's radicals who had close ties with the pre-war soviets and basked in the intellectual fantasy of one world communism without perceiving the real world of oppression and totalitarianism that it represented.

No, it was the only system that would allow them to stay in office and enjoy their perks. The great "hero" Gorby is several years too late. Now, it's all Boris's fault.

The Rats would say that Gorbachev is lying, telling his new "corporate masters" what they want to hear in order to get his speaking fee. The theory of communist man, you see, is far more important, and more believable, than any actual man, or so the Rats would conclude.
