the M-60 has been replaced with the M-240B which is the bigger brother to the SAW in 7.62mm

Big patriotic bump for our guys! They are HOT! (And hot on the trail, "oh Al Kaida... personal delivery!" )

A SAW in 7.62. That sounds like a nice weapon. It's reassuring to know that our guys still carry something with that kind of punch.

Good info. Thanks.

Look at the 2nd picture from the top. 2 soldiers beside a rock wall; one with rifle pointed horizontal and one in foreground with rifle pointed down. The troop with the horizontal rifle is showing us his full left sleeve. He appears to have no patch. It's possible the sleeve's twisted in a weird way, but it looks like we're getting a full shot of that left sleeve.

What do you make of it?

He's got a patch, it's just hard to see because it is almost completely sideways in the picture.

There is a statue in Aspen dedicated to the memory of the Ski soldiers of the 10th Mountain. They trained in Aspen during WW II and some them returned after the war to help build Aspen into a major ski resort.

I think I see a little dark mark there, but it looks to me like it could be the line of his LBE strap rather than the patch. But I can't tell. It just looks like we get such a full shot of his left shoulder that we'd see more of any patch that was there. Oh well. Doesn't really matter anyway, does it?

I bet some of these guys would like having a Pig to dish out some 7.62mm to the Al Queda boys.

They have MAG-58's,which replaced the M-60. A much better gun.

Thanks for the ping...I would have missed this...
I don't think I was EVER as young as these kids look!
The photo of the mortar crewman, keeping tally of his crew's 40 kills was the most heartening..

I heard all the talk about the horrible terrain... I would have given my right arm to have had the visibility and fire fields over distance these guys have. Of course, I wouldn't have wanted the altitude, cold or snow.

I guess we all have to fight the war of our era, and pray for the young men that have moved forward to fight theirs...

A world and life without war, would be something to contemplate.... or is it the impossible dream?

I think it's an impossible dream, and I'm glad we have these guys in uniform.

The Marines from Khandahar are back in San Diego, I hope they are not paying for any of their drinks!

I notice in the picture that the guy whose rifle you can see on the left has that stupid 550-cord loop in the magazine. Bad idea, as it can interfere with the proper functioning of the spring (the cord inside the magazine can bind on the spring, especially when they are more-or-less fully loaded). We'd "receive" magazines from other units like that when I was light infantry (what is it with MPs that compel them to modify gear that they'll hardly ever use), and we'd have to disassemble the damn things and take out the cord, tape, and whatever goop someone decided to stick in the floor plate. It was a popular mod at one time, but you mostly only find it on magazines that have been in inventory a really long time. I guess I'm just surprised to see that the 10th Mountain is using magazines that have been done up like this; there was no way an NCO would let a soldier go into a hot spot with magazines done up like that in any of the units I was in, and that was a decade ago.

It looks like it's taped to the outside of the mag not stuck under the mag's floorplate. You're right though, mags done up the wrong way get messed up.

"ROGER THAT BRO - Couldn't watch the whole thing last night, it really bothered me to re-live what those bastards did!!! may those responsible burn in Hell !!!!!!"

"thanks for the awesome photos, they are going to be placed on the wall"

"They have been ordering woodland camo, and have recently started ordering desert"

- These quotes comes from the the company that makes the flak jackets these guys are wearing. I had written them about the jungle camo vests. He assured me they were producing and shipping new desert camo vests. Should be in theater shortly. They loved these photos and said they were printing them and putting them up in at their office/production facility

FWIW Bump

Remember that for much of the world, especially its self-proclaimed elite, the face of America is that of a professor traveling on a grant to denounce everything about his home country. That's what they see.

What we see here is the real face of America.

I'm afraid we're gonna be needing Desert camo in bulk, very very soon.
