Republican voters chose a nominee Tuesday that Gov. Gray Davis, if he could have voted in their primary, likely would have picked: Bill Simon, a rookie politician with conservative views who is so little-known that some newly minted supporters call him ``Simmons.''

Gray Davis and Garry South will try to see if Bill Simon can stand up to whatever X amount of ad buys they throw against him. They're betting he will melt faster than snow in July by the time they're done with him and after that its a romp in November. The GOP gubernatorial candidate better get ready for the Rats barrage; Davis and company are just getting warmed up.

....if he is smart he will play the gay agenda card, because many of us are
fed up with Davis signing every gay bill that crosses his desk.Simon signed the the one man one woman Marriage Protection Pledge, distributed by the Campaign for California Families, Davis would not!

Davis' withering $9 million advertising campaign unglued the candidacy of former Los Angeles Mayor Richard Riordan, who had been the favorite heading into the Republican primary. And many political consultants expect to see Davis -- or rather his political strategist Garry South -- fire the first salvo against Simon before week's end. Were the shoe on the other foot, and an incumbent, well-financed *Republican* governor had the advantage, how many references would there be to "campaign finance reform" in this article?
