Just over a year ago, New Mexico’s largest emergency homeless shelter, a faith based ministry declined an approximately $1200.00 gift from a local homosexual group that raised the funds from a drag show and in so doing attracted a lot of negative community interest and concern. In their refusal of the gift, Joy Junction officials said that while the shelter’s mission is to help the homeless, that as a faith based ministry it does so in conformity with basic Christian principles. People city wide were appalled that Joy Junction could turn down funds from such “charitable people.” Joy Junction lost many donors, was accused of being homophobic and was even alerted that RISCLEE, the gay drag group, was attempting to get Joy Junction’s tax exempt status revoked. Now while legislators nationally debate pornography on the Internet, in a routine web search Joy Junction Executive Director Jeremy Reynalds has turned up some interesting information that RISCLEE may not be the charitable group that its leaders wanted to portray. Reynalds said, “I periodically do web searches to see what’s been said about us on the Internet. A search on www.google.com for RISCLEE produced amazing links (following).
