Three Gunmen Open Fire In N Israel Town, Wound 25 -Police

JERUSALEM (AP)--Three gunmen opened fire late Saturday on a crowded boardwalk in the Israeli coastal town of Netanya, wounding at least 25 people, police said.

The three attackers were killed by officers who rushed to the scene, police said. Police were chasing a fourth suspect, who according to Israel TV ran into a nearby hotel.

The gunmen opened fire from two different areas along the hotel-lined boardwalk of Netanya, Israel TV said. The shooting attack took place on Saturday evening, after the Jewish Sabbath, a time when the boardwalk area is crowded with pedestrians.

At least six of the wounded bystanders were in serious condition, doctors said. Among the wounded was a baby.

At Least 25 Wounded by Terrorist Gunfire in Netanya

(IsraelNN.com) According to emergency medical service personnel, at least 25 persons were wounded a short time ago by terrorist gunfire in the coastal city of Netanya, on Gad Machnis Street, near a pedestrian promenade.

The preliminary report from the scene speaks of three terrorists armed with automatic weapons. Unconfirmed reports indicate they were killed at the scene. There are still unconfirmed reports of gunfire in other areas of the city, leading police to fear a second attack or that one terrorist managed to flee the scene and opened fire elsewhere.

The wounded are being transported to the Laniado, Meir, and Hillel Yafeh Hospitals. Some of the wounded are reported in very serious condition.

Police have sealed the entrances of the city and no one is being permitted to leave or enter at this time.
