Sorry, but I do fund raising for a living, and I can tell you, carpet bombing is not only effective (it got me to make an additional gift this campaign, in addition to what I give monthly to FR), it is essential.
We have to enlighten people that it costs money to provide this service. They use it; they benefit from it; they should pay for it. It is called appreciating what you have. And that is true, even if you only have a widow's mite to give.
So, carpet bomb away and don't let the naysayers get you down. Freedom, and FR, are a privilege, not a birthright.
Indeed this is my concern. However, as the fund raisers have gotten shorter, it seems that there could be another way to educate FReepers about the costs to run this site and the need for their contribution. Bombing is the best way I see now, but John has stated his dislike of having to carpet bomb so often. Not that he's against it, just that he wishes it wasn't necessary.
