All the U.S. Apache helicopters flying air support during the first day of the battle were damaged. Several took direct hits from RPGs, but all of them were able to return to base.

Sheeeeeeeeeitttttttttttttttt! That sounds hairy. Guess we built those Apaches well. But we are we not just napalming where the rocket fire comes from.

Dear President Bush:

I support your efforts to rid the world of terrorism. I abhor the Democrat efforts to undermine those efforts.

I am a retired naval officer and Vietnam combat veteran. I am a devout Christian who attends church every Sunday. I have strong opinions about war, and I realize there are casualties of war.

All of the enemy fighters in Afghanistan are not worth one life of an American service person. I do not like to see American casualties. Today's events literally make me sick.

I encourage you to have our armed forces exterminate as many of the enemy as possible without having to engage them on the battlefield. We should bomb them into oblivion. We should not leave any of the enemy alive to be taken prisoner. These people are not like the Germans, Japanese, or Italians we fought in World War II. They are not like the Spanish we fought in the Spanish-American War. They are not like the British we fought in the War of 1812. The enemy today will never become allies. The only way to deal with them is to kill them. Those that we are holding as prisoners will have to be executed or held captive for the rest of their lives, because if we ever let them go free, we will have to fight them another day.

Please, oh please, make every effort to wipe them out with bombs. We should put out the word that freedom loving Afghan civilians should separate themselves from the enemy, or take the chance of becoming collateral damage. If civilians mingle with the enemy, they should know that we will not be responsible for their deaths.

Bomb, bomb, bomb; kill, kill, kill; win, win, win--while protecting our armed forces. This enemy must be exterminated like the vermin they are. This is justified killing because it is self-defense. If we do not kill them first, they will kill us. We did not start this thing, but we must stop it. The only way to stop it is to wipe the enemy off the face of the earth. A friend of our enemy is an enemy, too.

My Name

Socorro, NM

Pentagon officials identified the dead serviceman as Petty Officer 1st class Neil C. Roberts, 32, of Woodland, Calif. Roberts was based in Norfolk, Va., with a Navy SEAL unit.

This news hits quite hard here in Woodland. I pray for PO Roberts and his family, especially his wife and son. His uncle called the local talk radio station a little while ago, and I was very taken with what he had to say about his nephew.

Being a Navy vet, wife of a Navy retired Chief, and mother of a new sailor, I really empathize with the Roberts family.
