Daschle: There's No 'Shadow Government'

For once the White House called Senate plurality leader Tom Daschle on one of his lies, and he admitted today there was no "shadow government."
"Senator Daschle was here at the White House earlier today, where White House aides and others reiterated to the senator information that had previously been provided to people who work for him," White House spokesman Ari Fleischer said.
Daschle had groused Sunday that he and other congressional leaders had not been consulted on the Bush administration's activation of the program. But then the truth got out, and the South Dakota Democrat had to reveal he wasn't quite as ignorant as he pretended.
Of course, the wee prince of partisan obstructionism didn't exactly make a graceful apology.
"I think there ought to be a cease-fire on who knew what," a red-faced Daschle stammered. "I'm satisfied a contingency plan is in place that takes into account a pretty dramatic need for succession."
"He's backpedaling because it's demonstrably untrue what he said," Washington Times star reporter Bill Sammon said this evening on Fox News Channel. With Americans growing sick of Daschle's carping during wartime about the U.S. campaign against terrorism, it's "a good time to kind of cut his losses."
As the Weekly Standard's Fred Barnes noted on Fox News, the only reason this story got so much play was because the Washington press corps was hoping the White House screwed up. Now that it's clear Daschle and his fellow Dems were in the wrong, you won't see headlines saying "Daschle Wrong, White House Right," Barnes observed.

"He's backpedaling because it's demonstrably untrue what he said," Why can't they just say he lied?

Two days ago, Daschle the hypocrite said there was a "shadow government." That was before it appeared that he was in on it. Now that it appears that he was in on it, it's no longer a shadow government. Now it's a "contingency plan".

Good of Tommy to 'step up'.

If there was a 'shadow' government, Dasshole and his fellow 'Rats would be very appropriate members, being mere shadows of human beings.

"I think there ought to be a cease-fire on who knew what," a red-faced Daschle stammered.
ROTFLMAO!!!!
This ranks up there with "it depends on the meaning of what is, is" and "I didn't inhale".
Aw, common Dashie-poo, no need for a cease-fire. Stick by your guns. Keep insisting that you had no clue that there was a "shadow government".

Daschle is definitely a demagogue, but in this case, he may have actually been misled by stupid, shoddy reporting and headline writing.
When the Wash post reports that there's a "shadow government" at work, that implies some kind of extra-constitutional entity at work somewhere, preparing to take over and impose a new form of government on the people. That's a bunch of horsepucky. In fact, the so-called "shadow government" is just the same government, only some of its officials are in hiding. It's shoddy reporting, that's all. Write a letter to the Washington Post.
On the other hand, Daschle is probably just demagoguing as usual.

little tommy tinker, what a little stinker, pretends he's glib, tells a fib, the press buys it hook, line and sinker.
To: truthandlife
Fox showed the clip of Daschle's remarks...and you could almost see the hand print left from the slap he'd just received upside his head.
He still looked a little dazed.

This is great - It's so rare when the rats are called on their lying. No mercy for the two faced daschle. I know one thing and it's that Bush is perceived as non-partisan to many and appears to go out of his way to reach across the aisle. Little tommy shot himself in the foot when he stabbed Bush in the back. The dems are truly the party of whiney, lying, losers.

What are the differences between the little rat daschle, and the clintons? All are liars, and power crazy.
So smooth as he lies. So calm. Almost believable. The consumate liar and demagogue...a good Democrat.
