Note to anyone who keeps piping up with the "she could have left, she chose the wrong path...." Mental illness is CHEMICAL, not moral etc. Diabetics don't choose their bodies' response to sugar. People this mentally ill, by definition, are incapable of rational action.

I wish more people understood this!

I understand what you are saying about a "skitzo" choosing not to take their meds. Mentally ill patients choose not to take their meds all the time. Those in treatment need "watchers" to remind them, counsel them, etc.

I think pertinent to this case is the question: Did Rusty, mom in law, anyone, make sure Andrea took her meds? No. In their insanity it was about Andrea "doing her duty".
Like some others have said, everyone involved (all of us) bear responsibility for not watching out for those children and allowing a pyschotic to be alone with 5 children.

She killed them, but if I was on the jury, I would not vote for the death penalty.
