Work with me here. Imagine if Mitt Romney does throw his hat in the ring, gets the GOP nomination, and beats the little troll Reich. Then in 2004, VP Cheney decides not to run with W. and Bush picks Romney as his running mate- then he could be groomed for the leadership position to succeed Bush in 2008.

I've also imagined this scenario for Bill Simon in California.

Romney's got the family name and credentials to get the nomination if he wants it- he almost beat Ted Kennedy in 1994, without any political experience.

Is that so? I think I recall he seemed to be doing okay, put a bit of a scare into Teddy for a while, but lost by a large margin on election day.
