The source you've cited presents these figuers in a disingenuous fashion - the product of another politically motivated source - the CDC. The CDC, WRT its bias towards gun control/confiscation, has already been discredited and largely defunded as a result of that bias. You also neglected to mention the title of the cited source. Does "GUN DEATHS AMONG CHILDREN AND TEENS DROP SHARPLY" jog your memory? Surely it must, because it shoots holes in your premises, if you'll pardon the pun.

Then we've got this statement of yours:

"I am not talking about wholesale firearms confiscation. I am talking restricting guns whose that pack excessive kinetic power like the 50 Caliber."

Disingenuous crap. That's a lie and you're a liar. That statement allows for the wholesale restriction and confiscation of a wide range of weapons. And it's so easy to define that "excessive kinetic power" boundary downwards, don't you know. So you're not fooling anyone with this nonsense. I have to conclude that you're either ignorant, evil or insane.

Ignorant,if you simply haven't bothered to check the credibility of your sources.

Ignorant,, if you think that the right to self defense is a collective right.

Ignorant,if you simply haven't bothered to acquire a sense of history, particularly that of the last century, during which 190 million unarmed non-combatant civilians were slaughtered by their own governments.

Ignorant, if you believe that the restrictions you've called for won't be abused by any government in power.

Ignorant, if you think that any government can be trusted with a total monopoly on force.

Ignorant, if you think that anyone can be trusted with the sort of power required to produce your perfect world.

Evil, if you're well aware of what I've cited above and persist in your ideals anyway.

Insane, if you're capable of ignoring reason and the resulting understanding and recognition of the laws of cause and effect.

Or perhaps you're all of the above.

The Remington 700 requires a federal license to purchase & own.

Another lie. You're really stacking them up, aren't you?

So - which is it, pal - ignorant, evil or insane?

30K dead per year from guns. In two years, more than the battle dead in Vietnam, in 8 years, more than the dead from WWII, in 30 years, more than the battle dead from all of America's wars. Stuff adds up. I have a greater fear of a whacko shooting me, than of the Repubs or Dems staging a coup d'etat

I thought we were talking about .50 caliber rifles. Nobody has ever been killed in this country by a .50 cal rifle in the US. Your gun stats prove my point about guns in general. If American soldiers in Vietnam didn't have assault rifles, obviously the casualty rate would have been much higher. Guns saved their lives in Nam just like it does 2.5 million times a year in the US.

Please elaborate. Do you mean practice makes perfect? you are absolutely correct. Fireing & training ranges should be made available to cops to train with this weapon on duty.

The Fifty Caliber Shooters Association is a civilian organization that does most of the research for the military and law enforcement in the field of .50 cal gunnery. They are civilians not cops..not military.

AB 2222, technical specs are similar, however, they are treated very differently legally. The M82A1 is currently classified as a long gun, thus any one (i.e. American) over 18 can walk into a store & purchase one without federal license. The Remington 700 requires a federal license to purchase & own. This loophole is what Waxman wants to fix

Sorry, you are way off the mark here. You didn't even answer the first part of my question and you didn't answer the second. Although you did try. The M82A1 is only one of several different .50's that are to be banned by AB 2222. The M82A1 is semi automatic, however there are many fifties that are bolt action just like the Remington 700. The Remington comes in several different calibers most notably in .308. The M82A1 and the Remington 700 are both long guns. There is no requirement for a federal license to own either the M82a1 or the Remington 700.

I've been watching, quietly reading your exchanges on this thread. Quick stuff for a two-day newbie, but you gave yourself away with a reckless use of pronoun:

"At this point, (politically) our side is fighting a defensive holding action, trying to minimize the collateral damage from weapons of excessive power."

So! You have a "side" that you are on, and it's the side of HCI. I submit you are not debating honestly, but you are actually a disruptor. Appropriate buttons pushed.

Look Ajnin, I have no doubt that you & your friends use these weapons responsibly & wisely. However, in the wrong hands, they pose a threat to anyone in the immediate vicinity.

In the wrong hands a car poses a threat. You drive on the highway with thousands of other people. Most of us do this every day. It amazes me that people like you can completely trust a total stranger in a high speed 4,000lb missile, who in a split second of inattention can take your life. Yet you can't trust someone to own a certain type of rifle that you will probably never see.

You're wasting your time on this HCI guy. You've made some *great* points in this thread though, so there's value in the exchange.

Yeah, I figured as much. This individual has refused to rebut any of my comments. Trembaugh doesn't realize that as part of the soul and conscience of the Federal Government I know what I'm talking about. This person wants me to tell him some smarmy government love story about how all us "Feds" lay awake at night twittling our thumbs worrying about peoples constitutional rights.

Oh yeah - and his omission of the title of the article was just too cute. I guess he figured that none of us would actually check his 'sources'. What a putz.
