REBUFFED BY BILL: Reich won’t get Clinton’s nod
The HIll ^ | 2/27/02 | Open Secrets

Posted on 02/27/2002 6:00:49 AM PST by Jean S

Has Robert Reich, Bill Clinton’s first secretary of labor, asked the former president and fellow Oxford Rhodes Scholar for his help in his campaign for Massachusetts governor?

Not according to campaign manager Mark Longabaugh, who says: “This race is about Robert Reich and the state of Massachusetts, not the former president.”

Back in December, Reich told the Boston Herald that Clinton “was encouraging” about his making the race. Those quotes lit a political fire in the Bay State because Clinton is close to front-runner Steve Grossman, the former national Democratic chairman.

Reich backed off any claim to Clinton’s backing.

What about President Bush not backing Lazio in his run for Congress this year.

Wonder Why?

Clinton probably said he couldn't do it on such "short" notice, I bet.

Reich was a day late and a dollar "short.

Come on, this is too easy.

Reich told O'Reilly that he would not raise taxes and will say that in his campaign. After the duplicity of Warner in VA, its a lead pipe cinch that Robert "Third" Reich will raise taxes.

Little Bobby is far more concerned about distancing himself from the stain of Willie's filth and corruption. Clinton will go to Mass. to do one or two fundraisers for Bobby but will not, otherwise, actively campaign for him nor will Bobby run on Willie's record. Willie can raise money in Mass. After all, these people wil vote for a Kennedy every time and are not concerned about filth or corruption. They give money to Bobby because Willie urged it.

If I recall correctly Reich was one of the 5 people Clinton said he had in his cabinent that he couldn't stand. He said this to Bob Kerrey at a dinner shortly after he left office.

I think the others were Stephanapolous, Reno, and Freeh. I can't remember the other one.

Where did you hear this?

I was aware that he needed to pay off his campaign debt in order to run.

Reich will need a tri-level soapbox to make his points on the campaign trail.

Without clinton's support, he may have a chance. YECCH!

No! Bush wouldn't give Lazio a job.

Wonder why?

The reason Bush hasn't endorsed Lazio is simple: Lazio is not a candidate.....he has not announced his candidacy.

Newsday Speculates About Lazio Run

Long Island, N.Y. Long Island's Newsday ran an article today speculating on whether Rick Lazio will run for the Congressional seat that made him what Newsday called, "Long Island's Star in Congress."

Lazio, a thoughtful public servant who weighs decisions carefully, has not decided whether to take on the challenge of regaining the seat for Long Islanders. It is not a decision that a conscientious life-long public servant makes lightly. As his record of achievement as a Member indicates, Lazio takes the job seriously and understands its importance to his neighbors and the communities of Long Island.

Lazio, once Assistant Majority Leader and Deputy Whip, is a leading candidate for a leadership post upon regaining his seat in the House. His reunion with the Long Island delegation would boost the delegation's clout tremendously. His suppporters and constituents know his talents and respect his judgment. They will wait and see what he decides and will be ready to to support him no matter what the decision.

I'm sure he will, and I'm sure once he announces he'll have tons of support....including Bush.

I've been told that Lazio has been waiting for Bush's endorsement, which my source says will not come.

My source says that you're an annoying leftist who likes to make dramatic predictions that never come true.
