I don't know anything about writing, but my Dad read Louis L'Amour and told me that L'Amour must have kept a bottle of 'typwriter lube' real handy -- Dad said that in one story a stampeding herd of cattle started up the hill and by the time the got to the top, they had turned into a herd of horses!
