At least there actually was a black G.L. at some point.
How about the pricks in Hollywood casting a black Wilson Fisk in the upcoming Daredevil movie? Not to mention Ben frickin' Affleck as hornhead? AAAAAGGGGHHH! At least there's Blade 2 coming soon.

he could challenge tham to a duel - but it would be five minutes before he could take Audrey Hepburn's gloves off.

Don't forget the great Guy Gardner - my fave GL...

Close but not quite. Jon Stewart (the self-proclaimed "Black Lantern") was the third Green Lantern of Earth. Guy Gardner was Hal Jordan's original back-up but he got hit by a truck and was in a coma, so Guardians decided to recruit another back-up. They thought Hal was a tad square (racist) so they purposely chose a black guy, i.e., Jon Stewart. All three of them had rings by the way. Jon had his very own spin-off comic book for a while, but it stunk.

THAT'S a comic book hero?
Words escape me!

yep, last month . . . what a pianist!

basically, this guy . . . . blanking his name was buddied up (it was a whole DC comics push on racial issues, don't ask) because he was GL's #1 fan (but not in aMisery kind of way) It one point Hal Jordan (the guy you remember as GL) got his life screwed up and this guy took over. Of course, this was 10 years ago. Why are they using the black guy instead of the classic silver age GL or the current GL? It is that stupid affirmitive action crap again.
To: Big Guy and Rusty 99
Yes, I saw him at the Village Vanguard in 1999. He seemed in great health though.
To: Melas
you forgot Guy Garner!
To: nickcarraway
I love his comping on Trane's Giant Steps album.

I agree, but you have to admit DC has got a lot better these days. I am hooked on batman now.

I haven't really kept up on the comic world since '94-'95. After the death of Superman series, he converted to that electrical whatchamacallit and I lost interest. Marvel started coming out with all of those snazzy foil covers and #0's and #1/2's and that gimmick totally turned me off. Though the graphic novels featuring Batman were some of my favorites. Obviously, the Dark Knight Returns is in a class all by itself. Can't think of any other story line I enjoyed as much.

There have been numerous Green Lanterns. John Stewart AKA the black one, was originally the ring's backup GL. If Hal were incapacitated, the ring would leave Hal's finger and seek John. Later John became THE Green Lantern, followed by others, and eventually the return of Hal. Hal's return didn't last long before Hal was replaced with Kyle Rayner, the current Green Lantern.
Point being, from a comic book standpoint, the black GL on the new show is legitimate, not a PC invention for the show.Ah, OK! I'll buy that. For a second there I thought there might be some quota hiring system in place over at the Justice League.
Sigh, I knew I'd give myself away as a fanboy geek one day, and totally ruin my political credibility.
No, Clintoon and Gary Condit have ruined their political credibility. You've still got my vote (for High Minister of Toonery, at least). <|:)~

Definitely. Too bad he didn't do more with Coltrane. I have a few live ones I enjoy with him playing for Coleman Hawkins.
To: Big Guy and Rusty 99
What a lame-o thread.
Even a Marvel Zombie knows that Alan Scott was the coolest GL.
To: Big Guy and Rusty 99
Yep...
