LIBERTARIAN RADIO: Carla Howell, Libertarians for Peace, Objectivists
The Political Fire ^ | 22 February 2002 | Jesda Gulati

Posted on 02/22/2002 10:20:52 AM PST by jesda

The Political Fire is a radio program broadcast in Spokane WA hosted by Kyle Varner and Jesda Gulati. All shows are archived online in streaming audio.

Kyle and Jesda spoke with Carla Howell on her initiative in Massachusetts to end the state income tax, as well as her Libertarian Party candidacy for governor. Howell recently ran for Senate and finished almost neck and neck with the Republican candidate against Democrat Ted Kennedy.

Kyle and Jesda also debated Carol Moore from Libertarians for Peace, a so-called Libertarian organization that opposes the war on terrorism on the grounds that innocents are suffering and the US is the primary provocateur.

Also, Jesda debated Kevin Delaney, who works for the Ayn Rand Institute. Jesda and Kevin discuss the legitimacy of objectivism and the Ayn Rand Institute's opposition to Libertarians.

Listen to the show!

Libertarians for Peace, huh. Just goes to show you that in many ways, the Libertarians are really basically nothing more than Green Party members without the taxes.

The Libertarian label is being slapped on statist programs all over the world. From The Daily Mail and Guardian in South Africa:

Big Brother Gatsha, he's gonna watch ya

STEFAANS BRÜMMER, Johannesburg | Friday
2/22/02

MINISTER of Home Affairs Mangosuthu Buthelezi on Monday called himself a "libertarian" who believes in vigilance "to ensure that once acquired, liberties and freedoms are not placed in jeopardy by subsequent actions of government".

That said, he unveiled Hanis, an information-age tool of social control potentially much more powerful than apartheid's dompas.

Hanis, short for Home Affairs National Identification System, is a R1-billion computer system designed to store and match all South Africans' identity details, photographs and fingerprints.

When an intended complement is rolled out over the next few years - computer-chip "smart card" IDs to replace ID books - the personal information held by the state may include your medical, employment and welfare details, and even some of your movements and spending habits.

South Africans have accepted Hanis without so much as a squeak over the potential invasion of their privacy.

That's a pretty broad brush you're painting with. It certainly doesn't describe me. But I will say that the name "libertarian" has now been twisted beyond all meaning or usefulness. Credit Bill Maher for delivering the death blow.

There certainly are well-meaning conservatives who call themselves libertarians. But at its essential core the libertarian movement is animated--dominated--by a foul, Godless, and reckless spirit that has nothing in common with traditional conervatism, and which would utterly destroy this nation if allowed to.

You would do well to wake up and distance yourself from the libertarian movement. The spirit that controls it secretly detests you and is only using you.

I think Libertarians (the smarter ones) are well-meaning people who fail to see just one thing: that by legalizing drugs and sexual aberration, you give Liberals a vehicle by which they can hold on to power and enslave people.

To sum up the difference between Libertarianism and Conservatism in a nutshell, you might say: Libertarianism is about individual liberty, while Conservatism is about individual responsibility.

In a Libertarian society, you are free to do with your life whatever you want to (or are made to "want" to). In a Conservative society, you are free to do with your life whatever you want to, except:

  1. commit suicide;
  2. use any substitute for marriage.
In other words, you are master of your life, but not master of the lives of your children.

Not the first time this has occurred. Marxists took the term "Liberal Democrat" and made it into exactly the opposite of its classical meaning. Bill Maher is only the advance guard. Eventually the left will own the libertarian movement.

You ought to put this up on your profile page, Kevin; I've never seen a more fitting self-description.

God is -required- to understand and accept liberty? We cant use rational thinking and logic? Shouldnt someone use their intellect or have they none?

...Libertarians are really basically nothing more than Green Party members without the taxes.

Republicans are really basically nothing more than Democrats without the honesty to admit it.

I'd rather elect an atheist who respects people and property than a religious fanatic who has no reservations about using taxpayers' money to advance his religion.

Fools, such as yourself, are doing a fine job of destroying this nation without any help from Libertarians.

Huh, the Libertarians didn't mention that Kennedy got 3 out of four votes in Taxuchusetts.

Ooh the Libertarians really dented the politcal scene in Massuchusetts didn't they.

Oh well the Libertarian message was directed at those on dope and the only mathematic instruction they have is knowing how many pinches of weed fills a bowl.

My friend, you have things backward. The WOD is what empowers politicians to expand government and enslave people. The WOD has been used as the justification to vastly expand police powers, increase funding for all kinds of programs and angencies, and violate people and property.

Conservatism is about individual responsibility.

Do not Conservatives support the WOD and Social Security? The WOD and Social Security presume that the government must forcibly take care of people who won't take care of themselves.

"Huh"

Typical Libertarian response, the other being "Wow man what happened about a second ago, I can't remember.".

Yeah, it's us conservatives that are causing the downfall of the nation. Welfare, social security, unions, homosexual marriage, these are all conservative issues, oh yeah, definitely.

Where does rational thinking, morality, logic, and reasoning come from? What is the foundation? Oh yeah, the voices in our heads.
