Well, if you are a felon, old or young, you can't own a gun. So if it stopped one, it stopped enough.

If you're happy and you know it clank your chains..

"I generally agree with you on this point. However, I do think that a state can legally require this process for gun ownership...and it will most likely be an exercise in futility and make the cost of guns increase."

You are assuming that the end of the process will allow any sales at all.

CA tried, a few years back, to require a training course before any firearms or ammo purchase. No bill was attached funding any training, courses, or anything. No course material or passing grade was discussed. A little suspicious? The bill did not pass, luckily.

If the bill had passed, after a while people would have started asking for their courses. I doubt there would have been any. If "the people" protested and took it to court, "the people" would pay their end and through taxes, the CA end too. CA has lots more money than the citizens.

I wonder what's coming up that requires such desparate, endgame moves on the part of the antis?

"What if Oregon never issues the correct forms, and starts busting shops for illegally selling guns?

In NYC they have been doing this for decades. You can only get a gun permit if you hire a lawyer and force the city to give you one. Otherwise, they just let the forms pile up unanswered.

"..unless you are a felon trying to buy a gun."

As a rule, felons don't buy guns. They steal them. Or buy them from other felons. Who stole them.

No Oregon felon who wants a gun will go without a gun because of this law. Or the missing paperwork.

Only law-abiding citizens are inconvenienced.

The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms regulates the new program.

HUH? Is this a state program? Where's F-Troop come into it?

What if Oregon never issues the correct forms, and starts busting shops for illegally selling guns? The State uses tax money for court, and the shops use their own to defend.

Then we move one more big loud ratchet click toward CW2.

How did Sam Adams put it? "Crouch down and lick the hand that feeds you, and may your chains rest lightly upon you?"

First time in my memory that I have disagreed with you. I wouldn't trust the BATF anymore than I could throw the Empire State Building.

Obviously then we need permits and paperwork prior to buying typewriters or wordprocessors.

It appears to be a regulation of gun ownership...not a ban. Depending on how it is implemented, it may not be a big deal..unless you are a felon trying to buy a gun.

You have missed the point by a country mile. This law is an less than an hour away from implementation as I write this reply, yet firearm retailers do not have the paperwork required to comply with it. Therefore, they cant sell any guns. This might just well be the idea, put lawful gun stores out of business by prohibiting the sale of their wares. I believe it is known as gun control by fiat, tho I could be wrong about that. In less than an hour, it will be illegal for a lawful business to sell a firearm until the state gets it in gear and provides the paperwork. They just might be totally incompetent, or are delaying the paperwork intentionally to use a procedural technicality to deny some their rights...JFK
