Simon Sticks With the Issues
Focus on Issues Makes Simon the Choice for California GOP

LOS ANGELES - Republican gubernatorial candidate Bill Simon, in the third and final debate between the three leading candidates for the Republican nomination, emerged as the clear winner, articulating a conservative message of lower taxes, better schools and rebuilding California's crumbling infrastructure.

"There is a reason why my campaign has been surging in the polls," Simon said following the debate. "My campaign was the only one tonight talking about the issues: taxes, the budget, schools, roads, power and water. The other candidates were only focused on each other."

"To win this debate, Bill Simon needed to differentiate himself as the candidate for Republican voters who can beat Gray Davis in November," said Simon Campaign Chairman John Herrington. "Bill Simon did that - by laying out a vision that shows him as the candidate with the right ideas that can renew the California Dream.

"While the other candidates were focusing on attacking each other, Bill Simon continued to focus on putting forth new ideas to solve the issues Californians care about. Because of these ideas, Bill has won the support of Republicans and GOP groups across the state and the nation. In the past weeks alone, Bill Simon has earned the endorsements of the California Organization of Police and Sheriffs, the Howard Jarvis Tax Payers Associations, the California Tax Limitation Committee, the California College Republicans, former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani, former Vice Presidential Nominee Jack Kemp, and just this weekend, the overwhelming support of the delegates of the California Republican Party.

"Bill Simon, tonight and on the campaign trail, has proved himself the conservative Republican candidate with the right ideas to solve California's problems, and because of that, he will be the candidate who represents our state's Party in November," Herrington said.
