My experience is like yours. I've owned about a dozen different Macs since 84 and only had a hardware (disk drive) failure on one. Apple replaced that during the warrantee period.

If the CIA had its' choice it would use the best computers.

Like the housing and property industry which is run by the axium Location, Location, Location the CIA uses Macs because of Security, Security, Security.

Look, you can believe anything you want; however, having had, used and managed (organizations with very large numbers of) just about every PC ever made, I can tell you that Macs are NOT any easier to learn, use or maintain among mainstream users. Also, as someone who hires software engineers and summer (HS) interns, I'm not going to hire anyone whose experience is mostly Mac-based. The reason: Macs have unfortunately become niche platforms that are way behind the curve in the software applications they run and most of the youngsters we see have PC experience. Also, be aware that our creative folks, who used to be exclusive on Macs, are beginning to move to PCs of their own volition because of Mac software applications limitations.

The bottom line: Macs are not better, as the headline suggests, and putting them in schools exclusively disadvantages the kids. I don't care squat about wintel vs mac. I do care about employment, getting the job done and not sending kids down the wrong learning path.
