"Richard Bizarro, 59, could get up to 20 years in prison on charges of interfering with a flight crew"
Now I think this is going just a damn bit too far.!!
Okay children..you must raise your hands before you go pee pee.

Wrong. This was an entirely appropriate use of police authority. Follow the rules & for goodness sakes don't give airplane crews a hard time. He did this going into Salt Lake, too. Inexcusable.
To: Enemy Of The State
He could have waited thirty minutes to go to the bathroom. What I would like to know is why did he give a thumbs up to another passenger as he returned to his seat? It was as if he was saying "screw you" to the flight attendant. This guy was a troublemaker.
To: FreeTheHostages
eh maybe? but all he did was stare at the flt. attendant. There werent any reports of him giving her a hard time. 20 years in prison for going to the bathroom...with 3 air marshalls on board at that? I can see detaining the man or maybe even slapping him with a fine but not 20 years.
To: Enemy Of The State
These measures are ridiculous. Why don't they just have the marshals escort each passenger to the toilet at gunpoint, and frisk them before and after? No wonder people are refusing to fly.
To: FreeTheHostages
Authorities said a flight attendant instructed Bizarro to return to his seat immediately after he left the bathroom. She said Bizarro, who is 6-foot-2 and 220 pounds, ignored her orders and stared at her for about a minute before returning to his seat, according to the FBI. The incident was seen by two of three undercover air marshals on board, the FBI said. One of the agents said he saw Bizarro give what appeared to be a "thumbs up" to another passenger as he returned to his seat, prompting the marshals to take control of the cabin. The guys a jerk, and I'm sure he'll get what he deserves, which will be a lot less that 20 years. The hands on the heads routine seems way over the top.

Wrong. This was an entirely appropriate use of police authority. There seems to be a problem with the word editing program you used to write that. The corrected sentence is:
"Wrong. This was an entirely appropriate use of police state authority."

Bizarro was jailed overnight and released on his own recognizance. Probably all the jail time he'll see. The headline is a bit misleading "Arrested for Leaving Seat" when the article states he was slow returning to his seat.

Okay children..you must raise your hands before you go pee pee. Read the story. It says he was instructed to return to his seat AFTER .... and that's when he caused the problem

"Bizarro"?
To: SJackson
The hands on the heads routine seems way over the top. The jerk glared and gave a "signal" to one of his buddies. What would you have done?

The part that bothers me is ordering all passengers to put their hands on their heads for the remainder of the flight. Isn't that a bit extreme or are we at the point now where we will do anything we are told without question?

Because of the incident, air marshals aboard the plane ordered all passengers to put their hands on their heads for the rest of the flight. Thank you for flying Gestapo Airlines, now that we have landed in Salt Lake City you may now safely return your hands to the non-perp position. It has been a pleasure to treat you like Islamic Terrorists. Next time you feel the need to have your human diginity removed, remember us!
Outrageous. We are now guilty until proven innocent. Didn't the ticket agent get tipped off that the guy's last name was "Bizarro"?

What a contrarian.
They didnt go too far at all.
The skyMarshal said Bizarro[aptly named] gave a thumbs up to another passenger.
BAM...end of story.
It is not the responsibility of the skyMarshal to discern the intent of the thumbs up....once it happened...the planes cabin was properly frozen in place.
Bravo to the skyMarshals.
