I've noticed that many people have problems writing about things they just don’t understand. It’s hard to describe something in clear, simple terms when the subject baffles you. People compensate for their ignorance by using big words and complicated phrases when a simple word would do. For example,
A number of radical Roman Catholic dissidents were present

Marianne Duddy was another pro-minent radical Catholic voice

We call them "heretics." Isn’t that much simpler, and much more clear?

But ... but ... that so judgemental!!! If you do that, you might lower their self-esteem, or make them feel marginalised. We must respect our diversity!
