The truth is the Democrats have moved so far to the left since 1960 that people like Kennedy and Humphry seem like moderate conservatives by today's standards.

powerful and heroic as that of the unforgettable Kennedy?

Matthews must be fixated on the concept of Bush as JFK II. Here's an excerpt from an
earlier article:
Just the opposite. Instead of leading the nation in self-pity, Bush told us to buck up and give two years of our lives to the country with something called the Freedom Corps. He reminded us what a "privilege" it is for leaders like him to fight freedom's fight and how America stands "firm for the non- negotiable demands of human dignity." Again and again Tuesday night, he underlined what an "opportunity" history has granted us.
The way Jack Kennedy once did.

No, file it under the column Bush Jr. follows in Reagan footprints. This is the same national policy that Reagan followed only Reagan openly attributed it to John Kennedy. Over and over and over in the campaign of 1980 Reagan claimed his economic policy was an exact copy of JFK's 1960 policy. It was exactly that. The press even asked Teddy if the JFK plan and the Reagan plan were the same. Teddy said, "Hell NO'. The press asked teddy how JFK's plan differed from JFK's plan. Teddy said," I was for JFK's plan and I am againt Reagans plan. That is the major difference."
For most of this century much of what the Democrats stood for was conservative. The Southern Democrats of 1960 believed the same things the Southern Republicans believe in 2002.In many cases they are the same people. Strom Thurman was a Democrat back then and is a Republican today. His beliefs have not changed.
Of Course Bush is following Reagan.. who followed JFK. Believe it or not after being there to observe both Reagan and Bush Sr., Dubya has to figure that Reagans decision to follow in the footsteps of FDR and JFK was a smarter move than his Dads to follow in the foot steps of Thomas A. Dewey.
What part of not understanding history makes you feel the most superior?

You mean his father had to pay off a mobster to get him elected? Do you mean he is a womanizer? Does he have a brother that can't swim? I don't see the connection. Can someone clear the air?

JFK was a moron, just what were his accomplishments? Failing to support the Cuban freedom fighters and getting us into Vietnam up to our eyeballs and screwing Marilyn Monroe. Then he goes to Dallas and gets wasted then we get get the great society scam, the worse president in history.

Well, FWIW, I look for W to give the same type of Speech JFK gave about going to the moon, except this time it will be Mars. Especially now that China says it will put a person on Mars by 2015.

If Bush does that, he may well claim a role in history as powerful and heroic as that of the unforgettable Kennedy.Bush had better get to work. He's already ten years older than Kennedy ever was, and not one Mafia moll has been to the White House, not one movie star murdered--hardly any accomplishments at all.

"GWB" has already exceeded the "JFK" claim to fame.
"W" acted...the "K" reacted.
Still, the nitwit left will never understand the reality of geo-political fact.
They will always find comfort in placing their collective heads where the 'Sun Don't Shine'.
History will tell the tale of truth.
Best FReegards.
