The county of Los Angeles refused to accept the excuses I put down. As in the days of the military draft, I have been called into service. Worse yet, the judge won't let me off after I explained my financial duress in a possible two week criminal trial. Now we come to JURY SELECTOION. I have to think of a good line to tell the prosecuting and defense attorney to convice them that I would be a poor choice to sit on their jury.
So- I am asking my fellow FReepers if they have had similar experience and can give guidance, a good retort, or tactic. I am counting on you!
Um, go back to my post, I did no such thing, my dear. I was simply stating the reason as to why I cannot fulfill my jury duty obligation right now and nothing more. It is not my fault the law thinks my "excuse" as you would label it, is acceptable while someone else's isn't. You are barking up the wrong tree.
Sorry, Ntchum but I have to agree with Jean here. This is how the system works. That being said, my excuse is that I have 2 small children at home to care for. However, if I didn't I was serve as I am obligated to do as an American citizen."
That was you, and that says you agree it's important for the other person to serve, just not you. Your excuse being children, it trumps his, without even knowing what it is. You did say just such a thing. Sheesh.
You are correct I did say the above, but it was so long ago, I had forgotten it, since you only C&P my second post not my original. However I stand by my statement that the law is in my favor, so don't shoot the messenger. If and when the above poster has children and the same situation happens to him/her where babysitting is a probelm, he/she will be afforded the exemption. Also, the derogatory tone in your first post to me does not at all suit you. I don't come here to have another FReeper be a smart mouth with me. It's too bad you felt the need to resort to such negative tactics when you replied.
Nothing was ever easier. MEntion a past traumatic experience that would emotionaly bias you in this trial and then start either accusing the defendant or the prosecution. If the judge won't kick you out, the lawyers or the prosecution will happily do that, depending on whose side you are on before the trial. (You're supposed to be one sided).
Do your duty, sit on the jury.
This was a murder trial, the defendant being black. The defense attorney tried to get as many blacks on the jury as possible while the prosecutor pre-emptoried most of his picks. The judge was a blowhard that loved to hear his own voice and would talk to the jurors extemporaniously for as long as 45 minutes (at a clip).
I feel like I have been released from the army. I did my duty. I hope all the wise-acres who told me to do my duty get the same "important" service real soon.
You attacked someone else for something you indulge yourself in (as I said, there ARE babysitters, so your excuse is just an excuse), so I wondered why you thought your excuse was better ... especially without knowing a thing about the other poster. You agreed that s/he was shirking their civic duty, and then cheerfully announced that YOU are allowed to do that because ...
Why on earth would I post a long, long trail of past posts? I assure you that you can look back to see what you said as easily as I can, and the fact is, you denied saying something that you did say, within less than a day of saying it. That's a pretty poor memory, or a selective one. Mercy! I believe I'll ignore you now, because you obviously have an attitude problem. Hypocrites often do, when cornered, of course.
LOL I "heard" a tone? So you didn't mean, "don't pull Mommy rank" in a derogatory manner? And secondly, I did not "attack" the OP. You exaggerate, my dear. Noone else replied to me in a negative manner but yourself and it was a long thread. I see the irony in you pointing out selective memory as I corrected myself in my previous post but you chose to ignore it. And BTW, I stated I don't trust my children with just anybody, don't presume to think there is a slew of people that I can just call upon to watch my kids in the middle of the week. Didn't you just create a double standard by assuming you know my situation, while you harped me on this a few days back? You apparently have a problem with lack of child care being an accepted exemption. Too bad for you. Now please do me the favor and stick to you guns with ignoring me. I did not start the attitude with the "dont pull Mommy rank" post, you did. It's poster such as yourself that give FReepers a bad name. And, BTW for future reference name calling is normally a sure sign that the poster's arguement is going sour.
I do not have a problem with caring for small children being an excuse for not serving on jury. What I have a problem with is people who think they are somehow entitled to more consideration than someone else, based on something that only matters to them.
Have a nice life, dearie. I hope that everyone you meet agrees with your altitudinous opinion of yourself so that you don't get too many rude awakenings.
Now, please go re-read the thread and try not to be too embarrassed. It's really not all that important.<>PS - FReepers don't HAVE a bad name. What an odd thing for you to say.
