Sometimes Rush is wrong. That, or your cousin misquoted him.

Several of the newspaper articles of the time indicated that he was in the Young Republicans in school. However, his mother moved something like 11 times in 9 years and he lived in three states in his lifetime so who knows how many different schools he attended. It was never disclosed when or where he was in the Young Republicans. Back in January (most notably in the threads where Austim tried to raise the YR issue)I pointed out that by his logic, he must be a conservative because he's a member of Free Republic.

Additionally, this letter contradicts the "he loved America" image that was promoted immediately after his suicide.

He had encountered Al-Quaeda members. The 9/11 attackers were instructed to "fit in" in America. Joining the Young Republicans could have been a part of this strategy.
