Hitler wasn't a REMF. He won a wound badge AND the Iron Cross during WW-1. The Imperial German Army generally didn't give out Iron Crosses to privates unless they earned them. Hitler was a Corporal when the war ended,again showing he didn't exactly have friends in high places.
