The Kennedy "myth" is built on a foundation of corruption. It's fairly well known that Joe Kennedy made his fortune running booze during the Great Depression. He was no better than Al Capone. The difference is that Kennedy bought respectability. Capone didn't care about it one way or another. Joe Kennedy bought himself a diplomatic post and, after his own failed appeasement of the Nazis brought his own political career to ruin, Joe bought JFK a seat in Congress.

First, RLK, thank you for the referral to the book. I really do not know what running booze is, other than it is illegal, but my dem friend told me that Lieberman's dad did this. During the campaign, I think sanctimonious Joe painted quite a different picture.
