A chief constable has called for heroin to be prescribed free to Britain's 300,000 addicts. Richard Brunstrom, the head of North Wales Police, wants heroin possession to be decriminalised and people caught with small quantities of the drug to be treated. His comments are the latest proposal by a senior police officer for a more liberal approach to drug use. Mr Brunstrom said pure heroin should be provided on prescription for addicts, because that would remove the need for users to commit crime to pay for their habit. He told Police Review magazine: "Heroin does not make you commit crime; it gets you addicted. If you could get free heroin you wouldn't commit crime.

Cool. And the pharmacies can stock poisoned Xanax and other drugs for people that show up with fake scripts. And liquor stores can have beer laced with glycol for kids that come in with fake id's.

There has been alot of that same thing shoved down our throats over the last several years here . I like the idea but for a different reason . It is my hope that they all OD on the stuff . I see it as a public service to any society , to be rid of them .

So it appears that not are British Police are Statists. The man has considerable courage to say the truth. Addicts don't generally steal heroin (they would if the could) so the analogys with cars and banks are just wrong. Herion addicts mostly just want to get that nice dreamy feeling and sleep it off. Giving them cheap, free, heroin would allow them to do this with minimal victimization of anyone else. Better yet to have it once again available as it was on the free market 80 years ago, and we had far less problems with "drugs".
