A change of travel plans for members of the 1980 U.S. Olympic Hockey Team that pulled off the 'Miracle on Ice' might indicate who will light the Olympic cauldron at the 2002 Winter Games in Salt Lake City.

Originally, the United States Olympic Committee always plays it incredibly close to the down vest who will light the Olympic flame during opening ceremonies.

I think it's a good choice, the unofficial song for the Olympics will be Neil Diamonds "Comin' to America."

I know I would probably have heard or seen this report somewhere else, but I still wish you had not posted it. I would have rather been surprised.

I'll have to admit, the title threw me off. Images of the 1980 Hockey team salting a lake forced a left mouse click.

That'd be a great choice -- a team celebration in a time that America has pulled together as few times before.

There are two other obvious choices, speed skaters Bonnie Blair and Eric Heiden. Those folks wear Fort Knox around their necks any time they grab their medals.

How about this for a torch lighting-team captain Mike Eruzione shoots a lighted hockey puck over the cauldron to ignite the flame.

This is probably true as the whole team was reunited for the first time since the 80 olympics at the NHL allstar game yesterday.

Personally, I care nothing about the Olympics.

That said, what sort of moron (and I'm referring to the Trib, not to the poster) would deliberately spoil peoples' fun by reporting this story? What possible public good is served by publishing this? Shannon McCarthy and her editors at the Tribune are just jerks.

What a great memory of that picture, people singing 'God Bless America' in the streets after the game.

And we were still mad over the hostages, the USSR had its unbeatable 'Red Army' of comparable NHL stars which our colledge kids had lost to by 10-3 that summer.

Now more people may actually watch the opening ceremonies. I don't care for it myself, but I do try to catch the events.

ESPN was showing the TV Movie with Karl Mauldin the other day, no one would believe it on the big screen.
