If I may note, according to the Drake equation (despite its vast oversimplification), and the one set of estimates for the variables(despite their admittedly shot-in-the-void guesses), there should be statisically 2400 species capable of communication, though I'm not sure if that's supposed to mean right now or in the lifetime of the galaxy, though I would imagine it's the former.

Noteworthy re: Drake's equation is I didn't qualify that it had to A) evolve to intelligence much less B) try to communicate. :)

The Drake equation has never been proven or disproven, It is a theory that requires faith to believe in it's validity. It is as useful as a Next Generation re-run.-MM
