I get tired of hearing of Rush's "silver spoon" upbringing from ignorant persons.
Yes his family may have been rich in this small town, but you would never know it, really. You should see the dump of a house Rush grew up in and you would laugh. And you should see the home Millie lived in till her death. It is around the block from me and very modest, indeed.
They probably did have money, his father being a lawyer and an ambassador and all, but no one can say that Rush and David were priviledged children. Rush went to the same old and falling down HS as did everyone else in public school.
And did I mention that the barber shop where he shined shoes and talked politics is still here with the same owner? And the radio station KZIM where he started as a DJ at sixteen years old?
When you talk to people that knew Rush around here, they are only impressed with the fact that the Limbaugh's owned an airplane. Both Rush's parents were pilots...his father being in the China corridor and his mother transported planes during WWII.
Forgive the rant....but I am so tired of hearing of how Rush was handed life on a silver platter. He was not!
The first time I met Rush was at a reception for him prior to one of his two RUSH TO EXCELLENCE appearaces here in Humboldt county. I was stunned by the fact he was a total wallflower introvert and was drinking a Diet Pepsi. Having met personalities who wre very obnoxius and self centered he was most humble. His two trips here were underwritten buy a dozen small businesses and KINS Radio and were sell outs.
I remember he did a commercial for a local Dry Wall Company. Boy was I jealous.
