Most of us in Texas regard the border with Mexico to be impenetrable. I can't remember the last time I heard of someone illegally crossing the border.

I would add to that the fact that Canada has been freely allowing Immigration from many of the nations known to have supplied a large portion of the Al Qaeda membership. Canadian Customs are even more pourous than American customs. Crossing from Canada to the USA one used to be far less subject to inspection than crossing from Mexico to US. Further the border between the US and Canada is so open it is easily possible to escape detection when crossing at other than a port of entry.

Also, though, Washington is a highly militarized state. A few years ago, it was the most highly militarized in the nation by population. We have the Bangor Trident base, Fort Lewis, the three Boeing manufacturing locations and Hanford. It is often hard to understand the socialist bent of the state since so much of what goes on is military-related. The socialists seem like they want to vote out all industry and military and we can all live on Microsoft, Starbucks and Real Networks or something.

Anyway, the terrorists probably understand more about what goes on in this state than a lot of the residents do. I think the socialist residents think that since we are so far away from New York and Washington, D.C., that we are safe out here. The terrorists probably realize there is no leadership out here since the governor, two senators, and six out of nine representatives are Dims. Also, Seattle has a Dim mayor. No matter how patriotic an air a Dim puts on, their basic ideology is not geared toward true leadership and defending their followers.
