While Richard J. Riordan continues to maintain a commanding 3-to-1 lead over both his competitors for the GOP gubernatorial nomination, businessman Bill Simon -- helped by a heavy burst of advertising -- has more than doubled his support and broken into double-digits, a Field Poll released today shows.

In L.A. Times poll released yesterday (2 Big polls released in California yesterday - a political junkie's dream) the race is 26% Riordan vs. 21% Simon in a low turnout election where only the most likely voters vote. This is GREAT news for Simon!

Jones is plunging in the polls and is not airing and TV or radio commercials because no one will donate to him after twenty some years in politics. A nice guy but right now he is siphoning votes from Bill Simon's challenge to Riordan.

JONES NEEDS TO DROP OUT OF THE RACE - Now!

If that is the case, then Simon indeed has a chance. But if it is 46% to 15%, Simon is sunk. This is a case where if it isn't Simon, there is NO CHOICE. Both the other guys are horrible.

Freepers know me: I am the first to say you have to vote Republican even when it's a question mark, but Riordan is so bad that I think Christians, certainly, would have to pray for great guidance on what to do.

Giuliani should run in California. I've seen him in the Simon ads about 15 times now in the last week or so.

Simon just went on TV and Radio and already he is kicking butt. This despite all the predictions that this state (even Republicans) would not pay any attention to him and also that Rudy Giuliani would mean nothing.

The conventional wisdom was wrong.

Passing Jones was great to see but the real evil remains - Dicky Riordan.

Thrilling.

Honestly, if I thought Jones were trustworthy I'd be more inclined to support him among the Republicans. However, I can't get beyond his withdrawing an endorsement of Gov Bush to endorse Sen McCain in an effort to "save" McCain's big for the GOP nomination. Where's McCain NOW when Jones is up against the wall?

Simon can't win. B.S. comes across too rehearsed, his campaign offensively, extensively trades on Rudy's post-9/11 notoriety for personal political gain. Simon comes across as another "uber-rich" candidate trying to purchase state-wide office like Issa, Chekey, et al. Oh, and as of right now, his website still has NO ISSUES except the budget. I suppose for Simon overseas Californians in the military, Californians attending college out-of-state, and others aren't deserving of INFORMATION upon which to make an informed decision.

Reardon will not get my vote.

At this point, what with the black-ops level "hidden" debates (thanks MEDIA!), Jones' being an eyebrow raising "politician's politician", and scarcity of resources online from the likes of Mr. Simon, I have no candidate. I plan to vote early, likely on the first date early voting is allowed which could be as early as Feb 6th.

It's pathetic the best the CA GOP could do was the three blind mice.

Jones has the experience, background and character to make a great Governor. Simon is a spoiled rich kid with a big head. Riordan is a spoiled old rich kid with a big head. Simon gave money to "Gay" Davis for Governor in 1998. Riordan also gave money to "Gay" Davis for Governor in 1998. Simon didn't bother to vote in several primary elections. Simon is a johnny-come-lately - too late for me. Simon comes from New Jersey. Riordan comes from Los Angeles. Jones was raised in Fresno (an all American city). Go Jones!!! For victory & freedom!!!

There's a rumor going around that the Bush team is looking at Bill Jones with renewed enthusiasm. Riordan would be a NIGHTMARE. Simon doesn't have the experience. Go Bill Jones!!! For victory & freedom!!!

Wouldn't you love to see him run for the Senate against old Hillary again?

jeez, Saundra, you have a lot of rumors. Is this what keeps the Jones campaign alive? a few days ago it was Simon dropping below the cutoff, now Bush stumping for him? Somehow I doubt it- Bush takes things way too personally to forgive Jones, plus about 70% of the Bush 2000 state team is on the Simon campaign.
