10 Illegal Aliens arrested at San Diego nuclear submarine base
Roger Hedgecock Show (San Diego) ^ | January 28, 2002

Posted on 01/28/2002 2:05:28 PM PST by John Jorsett

KOGO AM 600 talk show host Roger Hedgecock has just broken the story that the INS has arrested ten illegal aliens (he gave the nationalities, but I can't recall any other than Honduras) at the Point Loma nuclear submarine base in San Diego. The aliens were employed by a contractor and were engaged in the sandblasting and painting of a nuclear submarine! 5 of the aliens had obtained base clearances, and 5 had not. Some aliens fled at the approach of the INS, causing the lockdown of the base. 2 were later apprehended when their hiding place was located. When the INS refused to comment, the KOGO news staff requested the name of the FBI agent in charge of Homeland Security for the San Diego area. They were told that there was none.

I agree with you. I too believe our President and congressional leaders are failing us by not insisting on immediate deportation of every illegals. When another attack comes, our government will have no reasonable explanation that we will accept. The conservatives in congress should also be standing tall on this issue. How sad that our and our families safety is being compromised for fear of being seen as 'insensitive' or 'intolerant'.

. . . passes a background check

The same way Tyson was able to outfox the INS pilot verification program. Get somebody's real SSN, feed it into the system, and then have a fake SSN card/DL produced to match.

The Heritage Foundation Homeland Security Task Force was formed days after the September 11 attacks to meet this urgent need. This comprehensive study incorporates the recommendations of the Task Force for securing a vulnerable America.

Chapter 3: Top Priorities for Improving Intelligence and Law Enforcement (PDF 204k)

Excerpt:

Priority #4: Strengthen the visa approval and border security mechanisms. The first line of defense against terrorists today often involves a determination by a consular officer or Immigration and Naturalization Service (INS) inspec-tor that an alien should or should not be allowed to enter the United States. Legally entering the United States was remarkably easy for the September 11 terrorists. The visa approval and entry?exit processes must be strengthened, as should the ability of LEAs to enforce existing immigration laws against aliens who are in violation of those and other laws. Consular officers must have more information upon which to make a visa decision. At the same time, the Secretary of State should leverage the approval of a waiver as permitted by the Visa Waiver Program to enhance the anti-terrorism cooperation of other countries. Mechanisms to enforce immigration laws against aliens who violate the terms of their visas or who enter the country without inspection also should be strengthened.

Priority #5: Reduce the opportunities for identity theft and fraud in state identity document systems. False documents continue to be a major problem, and the terrorists involved in the September 11 attacks showed that they will exploit those States with systems most liable to fraud. Any State that continues to run a document system subject to fraud and abuse places the lives of all Americans in jeopardy. Current procedures for the issuance of identity docu-ments, including driver?s licenses, birth certificates, and death certificates, must be tightened and a mechanism developed to deter and prevent identity theft.

AAMVA Special task force on ID security

Press release: here

Arlington, VA Today the American Association of Motor Vehicle Administrators? (AAMVA) Task Force on ID Security announced its recommendations for strengthening and unifying inconsistencies in the North American driver?s license issuance process.

Recommended Strategies

AAMVA recommends eight broad strategies:

1. Improve and standardize initial driver?s license and ID card processes.
2. Standardize the definition of residency in all states and provinces.
3. Establish uniform procedures for serving noncitizens.
4. Implement processes to produce a uniform, secure, and interoperable driver?s license/ID card to uniquely identify an individual.
5. Establish methods for the prevention and detection of fraud and for auditing of the driver?s license/ID processes.
6. Ensure greater enforcement priority and enhanced penalties for credential fraud.
7. Seek U.S. federal and other national requirements for legislation, rule making and funding in support of AAMVA's identification and security strategies.
8. Establish public and stakeholder awareness and support.

and illegal aliens of course will not carry documents to prove that they are here illegally.

I have to disagree. If they are carrying a consular ID card, they're illegal. Why would a Mexican tourist/visitor need to get the consular ID if they can get a new passport? Whatever contingency the card was originally intended to cover, it has been superseeded by the coordinated campaign by all consulates to get the cards accepted as valid ID so that illegal aliens are not arrested and deported.

I have to say that Bush is failing in his duty to protect this nation. All illegal aliens should have been rounded up and immediately deported months ago. I'm sure the reason he has not done this is because the liberals would crucify him if he did.

I used to think this way until Bush started babbling about Amnesty for millions of Mexican illegal aliens. If that wasn't enough Bush recently announced he wants to restore welfare for immigrants. He is pushing this agenda even though every poll taken on immigration shows that Americans want reform on all immigration-legal and illegal. No, Bush for whatever perverse reason indirectly supports, by not enforcing our immigration laws, illegal immigration and, for that matter, any kind of immigration from 3rd world countries.

For anyone that didn’t see it, there is a news story out on FR today that the U.S. is likely to bring in 12,000 Somali Muslims this year under the refugee act. I guess we didn't know that America needs more unskilled, uneducated, culturally incompatible 3rd world immigrants here. Hard to believe given 9/11 but true. I really doubt we will be hearing Bush talk about this in his State of Union speech tomorrow.

My opinion is that Bush is a captive of powerbrokers in business that have a vested interest in unlimited immigration and cheap labor. If Bush pulls his horns in on immigration it will only be because his advisors tell him that it will cost him votes in 2004.

You are right about the consular ID cards as valid ID for those who are stopped by police. I forgot about that recent Orange County or Anaheim decision to accept the consular cards. It did not seem like a good decision. I don't think the consular ID cards allow aliens to get a job, but I could be wrong.
If the government knows someone is here illegally, it should deport the aliens instead of simply giving them another ID.
If employers had better means to discover the citizenship status of new hires, were pressed to follow the laws on hiring aliens, and were required to notify the INS about illegals, perhaps the INS could find more people to deport. (That doesn't really solve the problems, though.)

If illegals can obtain base clearance to a highly-sensitive area like a nuclear sub base, things are in a bad state indeed.

When there are at more than 10 million illegal aliens running around the country anything is possible.

As for physically tracking its bearer, it could only do that either (a) when presented for access to government facilities or (b) when presented for travel.

Well, Smartcards use induction from the reader to power the card. Most readers use low power and requires close proximity to charge and then read the card. One could assume that increasing the power and upping the sensitivity of the reader would enable the gubmint to trigger and read the card from a greater distance, much the same process that toll roads are starting to employ.

Personally, if I get a gubmint issued national ID smartcard; the first thing I'm gonna do with it is give it a few seconds in a microwave.

However, our hearts must be filled with love. It does not matter who they are as long as they can do the job. Nationhood and narrow patriotism are passe'. America belongs to the world now.

The paints used on submarine hulls have some special properties (which I'm not at liberty to discuss). Those properties come at the price of the paint being very bad for you if inhaled--and respirators won't stop all of it, you need a "space suit."

The special antifouling paint used on a submarine is illegal for civilian use. Very toxic to the environment.......but how many submarines are there compared to pleasure craft ?

we don't ahve to do any of that, and we don't have to worry about getting all of the illegals out either. what we have to do is defeat our enemies. and just because they are not claiming thier soldiers shouldn't and cannot make a difference. track the money, track the citizenship and find out who is doing the training and take them out just like we would any other enemy. people don't come here to attack us, without money, training and visas.
