USO Canteen Freeper Style

War has come to our shores. It was committed on American soil.  We have been able to live in Freedom only because of those who have fought in the past wars giving life, limb and all the sacrifices for us to live in Freedom and go about our day without fear.

On September 11, 2001, that comfort, that feeling of living in a land that would not be attacked ended.

William T. Sherman said it succinctly, "War is hell."

The day has come for this Nation and its people to understand that there is a risk in losing its freedom, and in reality there always has been. We have ONLY stayed free because of the sacrifices of our military, our warriors.

This is about saving the future of America. Aristotle said, "We make war that we may live in peace."

We are seeing the American Flag flying at homes now more than ever in my lifetime. We are seeing the American Flag flying on vehicles and people wearing Flag pins and small Flags on their clothes. America is united in the cause for Freedom and for our country to WIN against the evil that came upon our land to kill and hurt us. To change our way of life and to destroy America which is US, you and me. To take away our precious Freedom.

This is the Freeper version of the USO Canteen. Where soldiers could come and feel a small part of being at home. It is a place where you that have family in the military can post a thought to a loved one that might be able to read it far away from home. A place where we that support our military can help support them, post to them, fun graphics showing the price in America and our troops. Poems, quotes, cartoons, or articles of how America is behind our troops.

Those in our military are our Nation's warriors. Let us join hands, fly our Flag and let the world know how important our warriors are to us....And that our MILITARY, our Warriors, are America's TRUE HEROS!

Coffee is up! Burnt toast is ready..... Beamer has been walked and going in with me for his promised swim.

I spent a nice restful night at the Canteen, Beamer at my side, ear plugs and snorkel in place (to protect against Beamer's snoring and drooling)

Hey who, didn't do too bad drying your new bedspread, huh!!! It didn't shrink a bit!

I forgot one important thing in this lodge pic! This is the last thing I am going to add, but this was Tonkin's fireplace scene which I commandered. ;-)

Billie, although you had planned to add people to this scene yourself, it seemed right to me that you and Snow Bunny are the only ones in it, since you are the gracious hostesses of the Canteen threads. When I look at this pic with the two of you , I get the sense that I am your first guest coming in to join you and the warmth of the fire.

I'm having trouble getting AOL to accept a replacement for the original pic, so that link on the other thread is gone. Some day I might figure out how to use this computer thingie. ;-)

Good Saturday morning to you. I gave myself the pleasure of sleeping in a little this AM. Mrs SLB and our three youngest daughters (19, 13, and 10) stayed up until about 1:00 this morning watching a good classic movie; Mr Smith Goes to Washington. In a dream world, wouldn't it be great if all politicians had those standards? I was very pleased to learn yesterday that at the local level a great conservative is running for office here. He tried for State Representative during the last election and came very close to defeating the Kentucky Democrat machine. Now, he has name recognition and is running for a county position (Judge Executive) which has traditionally been held by some of the most corrupt and just plain ignorant people I have seen. We might be asking for some FReeper help later on.

I prattle on, let me go get some more coffee and enjoy the posts.

Snow Bunny: I can't begin to thank you enough for the tribute you have given Tony, my "son." The past four years have not been easy for him, but we have watched him grow and mature in ways that only giving service to one's country can do.

I'd like to add a prayer for those who have given their lives in the service of our country and also to the innocent victims of 9/11:
