USO Canteen Freeper Style

War has come to our shores. It was committed on American soil.  We have been able to live in Freedom only because of those who have fought in the past wars giving life, limb and all the sacrifices for us to live in Freedom and go about our day without fear.

On September 11, 2001, that comfort, that feeling of living in a land that would not be attacked ended.

William T. Sherman said it succinctly, "War is hell."

The day has come for this Nation and its people to understand that there is a risk in losing its freedom, and in reality there always has been. We have ONLY stayed free because of the sacrifices of our military, our warriors.

This is about saving the future of America. Aristotle said, "We make war that we may live in peace."

We are seeing the American Flag flying at homes now more than ever in my lifetime. We are seeing the American Flag flying on vehicles and people wearing Flag pins and small Flags on their clothes. America is united in the cause for Freedom and for our country to WIN against the evil that came upon our land to kill and hurt us. To change our way of life and to destroy America which is US, you and me. To take away our precious Freedom.

This is the Freeper version of the USO Canteen. Where soldiers could come and feel a small part of being at home. It is a place where you that have family in the military can post a thought to a loved one that might be able to read it far away from home. A place where we that support our military can help support them, post to them, fun graphics showing the price in America and our troops. Poems, quotes, cartoons, or articles of how America is behind our troops.

Those in our military are our Nation's warriors. Let us join hands, fly our Flag and let the world know how important our warriors are to us....And that our MILITARY, our Warriors, are America's TRUE HEROS!

"No Marine was ever honored for what they received. Honor was the reward for what they gave." (Anonymous) CHIEF gave his all in many ways. He touched our lives and his friendship meant so much to all of us. He will live in our hearts forever, and his friendship will always be a bright and shining memory in our hearts and souls.

Fantabulous graphic, TTM. Even a figment can recognize the impact of that.

..after looking at it I feel it should've been shrunk a little more, ..

I would disagree with that. It is just perfect as it is.

Fantabulous? I was going to chastise both of you for using improper English, but then to my surprise I found it in the dictionary. I'm glad I looked it up, it saved me from great embarrassment. :-)

The American Heritage® Dictionary of the English Language: Fourth Edition.  2000.

fantabulous

SYLLABICATION: fan·tab·u·lous

ADJECTIVE: Slang Marvelously excellent: “a really fantabulous find, just magnificent” (Mel Fisher).

To believe is to know that every day is a new beginning.
It is to trust that miracles happen, and dreams really do come true.

To believe is to see angels dancing among the clouds
To know the wonder of a stardust sky and the wisdom of the man in the moon.

To believe is to know the value of a nurturing heart,
The innocence of a child's eyes and the beauty of an aging hand,
for it is through their teachings we learn to love.

To believe is to find the strength and courage that lies within us.
When it is time to pick up the pieces and begin again.

To believe is to know we are not alone,
that life is a gift and this is our time to cherish it.

To believe is to know that wonderful surprises are just waiting to happen,
And all our hopes and dreams are within reach.

"If only we believe"

Those things we overlook as simple and "ordinary" are truly wondrous.

A gentle reminder in the new year 2002 that the most precious things in life cannot be bought.

You're so right, Bunny. Thanks for sharing such a nice post #113.

And here is the Navy prescription, hehehe.

A young boy goes off to college, but about 1/3 way through the semester, he has foolishly squandered what money his parents gave him.

"Hmmmm," he wonders, "How am I gonna get more dough?" Then he gets an idea. He calls his father.

"Dad," he says, "you won't believe the wonders that modern education are coming up with! Why, they actually have a program here that will teach Fido how to talk!"

"That's absolutely amazing!" his father says. "How do I get him in that program?"

"Just send him down here with $1000," the boy says. I'll get him into the course."

So, his father sends the dog and the $1000. About 2/3 way through the semester, the money runs out. The boy call his father again.

"So how's Fido doing, son?" his father asks.

"Awesome, dad, he's talking up a storm," he says, "but you just won't believe this--they've had such good results with this program, that they've implemented a new one to teach the animals how to READ!"

"READ!?" says his father, "No kidding! What do I have to do to get him in that program?"

"Just send $2,500, I'll get him in the class." ...And his father sends the money.

At the end of the semester, the boy has a problem. When he gets home, his father will find out that the dog can neither talk nor read. So he shoots the dog. When he gets home, his father is all excited.

"Where's Fido? I just can't wait to hear him talk and listen to him read something!"

"Dad," the boy says, "I have some grim news. This morning, when I got out of the shower, Fido was in the living room kicking back in the recliner, reading the morning paper, like he usually does. Then he turned to me and asked, 'So, is your daddy still messin' around with that little redhead who lives on Oak Street?'"

The father says, "Oh, no; I hope you SHOT that lyin' son of a gun"

"I sure did, Dad!"

"That's my boy!"

During a dinner party, the hosts' two little children entered the dining room totally nude and walked slowly around the table. The parents were so embarrassed that they pretended nothing was happening and kept the conversation going.

The guests co-operated and also continued as if nothing extraordinary was happening. After going all the way around the room, the children left.

As they disappeared out of sight, there was a moment of silence at the table, during which one child was heard to say, "You see, it IS vanishing cream!"

Last vet's day I saw you had posted some photos of vets. My wife recently came across a vintage '69 photo of me somewhere in RVN.I got the photo and had it put on diskette. So the next time you want to update your photo album I would be happy to submit mine for the gallery. Just let me know how and I will send it along.

Bunny, I am so glad to see you posting these pictures of our active military - I hope you continue to get photos to post and we can see ALL our Freepers who are serving now!

I have not forgotten the latest photos I've received for the Vet thread - just have not gotten enough to do another group yet! I noticed a post by RangerVetNam (thanks, Tonk for the heads up), and I've written a FR mail to him with my email addy to send the pic to me. What I don't know is if RangerVetNam and RangerX are the same people, because I have a photo of RangerX already - from Desert Storm though!

Gunnrmike and Lancey Howard - you've written me with promise to send photos - I haven't received your photos yet!

I will include Sandy and Trish whenever I do the next one.
