When conservative candidates incline against conservative principles, what should be the response of Freepers?
Hold their feet to the fire. If necessary, turn up the temperature.

I'm not so sure. Does party matter anymore? I recall long ago reading in Richard Vigueries' "The New Right: We're Ready To Lead" that he worked for the day both parties would be conservative so we can all go play golf on election day. Sadly, today things are more as George Wallace described them, "there ain't a dime's worth of difference." According to the ACU, the two parties are different.

It is heartening to see how many good Freepers are declining to be Bush cheerleaders and Republican shills. Don't get me wrong -- I voted for Bush. My wife and I live in Austin and we spent many a day, during the Presidential election debacle, demonstrating for Bush and protesting Gore, by carrying our signs around the Governor's Mansion, where Bush resided. We would have done almost anything to keep Gore out of that White House.
Nonetheless, the facts show that the Federal Government will grow no matter which of the 2 political parties is in power. As the power of the government expands, the power of the individual recedes. We can't have it both ways -- they are mutually exclusive. Either individuals, additively, hold the power or a larger group (e.g., political party, special interest, "protected" collection) holds it.
Our Founding Fathers intended for the sovereign individual to enjoy the power, Rights, and freedoms that few (if any) civilizations have ever known. I believe that liberty is too far gone to ever get it back. However, I will do the only thing I can do -- and that is to live my life in support of individual freedom/autonomy and limited government power. This includes individual Rights in favor of group privileges (groups do not have Rights), with an emphasis on individual Property Rights, from which ALL Rights derive. I will always look to the Constitution and the Common Law that underlies it, to find my answers.
If criticizing the 2 monopolistic, establishment political parties makes my positions unpopular, or gets me flamed, so be it. Though I admit, my views are in the minority, I am proud to join with those fellow Freepers and other Americans who feel as I do with regard to the extant over-bearing government power and corresponding ceaseless intrusion into the Rights and freedoms of individual citizens.

THANKS!!! I was reading that thread when my computer froze and I lost it. Not knowing the name of the thread, I couldn't retrieve it. Now I have bookmarked it to enjoy all the old threads again and again!!! (By the way, despite the help from fellow Freepers, my computer freezes regularly. Guess it needs another trip to the repair shop.)

Good idea. It would certainly cut down on the "Caption this!" posts.

" It is too bad we don't have some chat rooms, where we can talk together about our pets" I look forward to the addition of a chat room to the site. I would like to see the ichat rooms format, but have it coordinated with our FR screen names and passwords to avoid some of the security issues I have seen with other ichat sites. The yahoo chat program is fairly limited and just doesn't seem to flow well whereas ichat allows for a more complete interactive experience.

I think calling the victims of 911 "greedy" is a pretty crummy thing to do.
Its a crummy thing to do if the country did not raise 1.6 billion dollars from everyday americans for them and they still want more money. Its perfectly ok for them to be called greedy when NYC Firemen, Police and Port Athority Police familes will get their husbands salery for the rest of their lives plus death benifits and free state college then want more money from the federal government.
