Caller questions coming up.
To: newzjunkey
You're much faster than I with those propositions. Thanks!
And, thank you for posting the advisory about the radio. (None of the channels I get carried the TV debate two days ago. I'm listening to KOGO now.)

That's pretty bad. Blame "Clear Channel Communications". I haven't tired streaming since they moved away from Real Audio. It's back now.

Caller 1: Props being overturned by courts... will you promise to set aside person opinion and do everything to represent the people's votes and defend them in the courts. Jones: Absolutely yes. Simon: Yes, he agrees. Mentions AB 25 re: possible undermining Prop 22.
Roger asks Simon for a difference from Jones: 1st to pledge no taxes, claims Jones increased taxes. Jones asked what makes him difference from Simon: Simon never been in the legislature. Reduced taxes. Been elected.
Caller 2: Illegal aliens getting in-state tuition at UC schools. Jones opposes. Says people who stay here and pay taxes should keep Regents in-line. Simon: Also opposed, says it's a matter of priority. Shouldn't punish legal citizens of other states.

Thanks for the ping. I'll just have to let the Freepers transcribe the happenings for me.
To: newzjunkey
I was on hold. I was going to ask Jones about his 1991 Massive tax increase, but since Simon mentioned it they told me I couldn't ask Jones about it.

Caller 3 ("Greg in a car phone"): If they win as "conservatives", what will they do work with the liberal legislature? Simon: His ideas will be "pumped" through the legislature. Mentions US Att. as "public office". Says he's been able to get the essense of his ideas through. Says his ideas are "doable", that there can be plenty of agreement on things like differed maintance. Mentions Reagan, Bush, Rudy not having had elective experience either. Jones: Gov'ts not like a business. There's more given-and-take. Emphasizes legislative experience and beating Willie Brown. Again, points to having won statewide elections. Attacks Davis.

me too, actually. Let's keep trying to get through
To: ElkGroveDan
SOMEONE: Call and ask Jones about his flip/flop endorsing Bush in the 2000 Primary and suddenly withdrawing it and endorsing McCain. Ask why he can be TRUSTED.

Back now... Caller 4 (David on a car phone). Question for Simon. Article suggested Simon won't agressively differentiate himself from Reardon because they're friends. Simon: Reardon increased taxes, pledges to not raise taxes even to balance the budge. On abortion, Dick & him are at opposite ends. Said Jones declined, Dick is "pro-choice" and Simon wouldn't remove the pro-life plank. Pro-2nd Amendment, suggests Reardon would send police door-to-door to seize weapons. Wants budget cuts, streamlined gov't. Says Jones doesn't understand a boardroom, attacks Jones on that tax increase again. Jones' comments: experience key, has had to balance budgets in public & private sector. Key issue, who has the experience to lead. Says LA's crime reduction was due to 3 strikes, Reardon can't manage. Sucks up to the host. Reardon's management style is to be in France and deal with the MTA strike over the phone. People don't know where Reardon is leading, points out Dem support. Jones claims to have supported every major Republican incumbent in his political career.
End of debate. More radio debates to come.

Headline: Riordan admits he got creamed in debate by refusing to show for follow-up.
To: Gophack
It's one hour. Just finished. This is the first of a series they'll be doing with Hedgecock between now and the primary election.
To: newzjunkey
I just talked to my husband who was at work and able to listen to it. He said that Simon hit a homeroom comparing himself to Riordan and Jones. Any comments?
From your post, it seems he really defined himself. I think that's good.
