Showing that he can be just as keen to coalition-building as he is to raising money, Gov. Gray Davis met last week with about 30 activists and lobbyists from California's environmental community.

Participants describe the meeting, held Wednesday afternoon in the governor's Capitol office, as cordial, in part because the enviros like what Davis has done and in part because most of those who do not approve of his policies were too shy to say much about it.

Davis wanted to talk about Energy --- eh?

"They're going to say I screwed up," he said, according to one lobbyist. "I didn't screw up."That's not the way I see it!

Messes up the quote --- should be:

"They're going to say I screwed up," he said, according to one lobbyist. "I didn't screw up.

"That's not the way I see it!

Davis has even screwed over the environmentalists. He messed up the finances so bad, everybody loses.

Hopefully, even him.

Didn't Grayout, soon after last year's blackouts, rush through approval of a bunch of power plants....only to renege on those same approvals after the heat from the blackouts died down and no one was paying attention anymore? Can anyone fill me in on this?

Doncha' love the way liberals think?
"We felt like we were listened to, and I hope he felt he was listened to."

Feelings, feelings, feelings...

And "I hope he felt he was listened to"????

Geez' woman, even ignoring your bad grammar, you were the one who was supposed to be doing the listening; Did you listen or did you not? Or maybe you care more about how he felt about you than whether he actually listened to what your were saying? [more likely]

Maybe it's just a woman thing [Lord knows after 30 years of marriage, I still can't figure out my wife's convoluted thought processes sometimes], but why didn't she say "We listened to Davis, and we hope he listened to us"?

Aw hell, I think I'll have a beer...

He needs to get the bond deal done so he can fill the $6 billion hole his energy purchases blew in the state's general fund. Without that money, the deficit will only grow bigger

That's right, Davis SCREWED UP royally and we'll be paying for energy for decades. He raised taxes, and will do it again. He ignored the energy crisis, then the budget crisis. Now, he wants MORE BONDS that we'll be paying for the next 20 years.

Davis has GOT to go. The only person that can beat him is Bill Simon, because Simon GETS IT on the budget and energy. I liked his line in the debate last night that "Davis didn't plan to fail, he failed to plan."

Simon For Governor

Despite such squabbles, Davis probably can count on the environmental leaders to support his campaign in the fall. Even if the Republican nominee is former Los Angeles Mayor Richard Riordan, a moderate, environmentalists would have little hope of doing better on their issues than they've done under Davis. He has appointed people from among their ranks to key jobs in his administration and signed legislation advocated by that community. He has pushed for park and water bonds and greatly expanded funding for environmental regulation, parks, fish and game and water resources.

Now, with his re-election campaign gearing up and the outcome in doubt, he is calling on them to come to his aid. You can expect the testimonials to start rolling out any day now.

This is what I have been saying since the governor's race was but a speck on the horizon: it doesn't matter how liberal Dick Riordan is, the Democrats and liberal special interested will never give up Davis for him. Davis is their man, their buddy, their whore ... why give up a sure thing for a Republican, no matter how liberal?

The only thing we can do is nominate a conservative and bring out those conservatives to the polls who stay home when there is nothing inspiring on the ballot. Simon is inspiring because he's a REAL conservative.

Snopercod, really well said.

Doncha' love the way liberals think?

"We felt like we were listened to, and I hope he felt he was listened to."

Feelings, feelings, feelings...

I think actions are more important than words or feelings, but that is probably why I am a Republican.

I'm not sure that I remember that happening, although he has pulled just about every other trick.

There was some on and off for the AES plant at Huntington Beach and some items where he pulled some other fast ones!

It is hard to remember all of the twists and turns that have happened !

There was some underhanded moves with pollution controls, where he told the owners of some older plants they could run but then they went ahead and slapped them with fines when they exceeded their yearly allowances on pollution!

That was during the peak of the blackout crisis time as I recall when the state was shelling out big bucks for peak energy!

And those were some of the so called "price gougers" who passed those fines on to the system operator.

"They're going to say I screwed up," he said, according to one lobbyist. "I didn't screw up."

Well, in his Clintonesque revelation, he is accurate. During the blackouts, he knew it was impossible to replace that ceiling lightbulb.

These so called public meetings with the envirals is just a smoke screen!

Davis has been an enviral hand puppet since he was MoonBeam's hit man/chief of staff!

What we need to do is a way to follow the money (our tax $'s) that will find ways behind closed doors to get into the coffers of these enviral organizations.

Then watch how much of our tax $'s get laundered by these enviral organizations and end up in Davis's campaign chest.

If the green party does not have a candidate for governor, 99.999999999999999999999999999999999999% will vote for their enviral hand maiden, Davis! They have supported through out his shameful political life.
