I've removed all of my flags. The one in my house window. The three magnetic ones on my car. (I had wanted them visible from any angle.) The antenna ball, too. And my array of patriotic lapel pins, even the Mickey Mouse one from the Disney Store

Gag alert is right. Me, I'm still proudly wearing my flag buttons. After all, we have troops overseas in harm's way.

What a dork. Typical whining nonsense from the Left. Of course, the ELF can't be grouped with other terrorist organizations--they only set fire to SUV dealerships and sabotage logging operations.

This article is pointless and we are dumber for having read it. All the author does is whine about those mean old right wingers.

He neglects to mention the fact that the commies have been just as partisan towards the right during this time of war- again, liberals pick and choose which information to present as fact- so as not to have to face reality.

That's right: they're vandals and arsonists, not terrorists.

They're not terrorists until they start killing innocent people to advance their political agenda.

We've got to be really careful about terminology these days. The government is giving itself unprecedented powers to fight what it calls "terrorists," and we don't seem to be objecting. That means the government is going to define "terrorist" as broadly as we let it.

If we start allowing vandals, who don't physically injure anyone, to be classified as terrorists, the next step will undoubtedly be civil-disobedience protesters, who neither injure anyone nor destroy anything, but make nuisances of themselves in order to bring attention to their cause. Once protesters are terrorists, it's a pretty small step from there to defining mere dissidents--people who vocally protest the government, without even carrying signs or snarling traffic--as terrorists.

No--"terrorist" is a very big word, especially since the government now has the power to arrest without warrant and hold without bail anyone classified as a "terrorist." If we must use it, let us ensure that we use it properly.

When Zag complained of the ELF being called terrorist, he lost all credibility. These are the people that besides arson attacks that destroy property and endanger life, also spike trees so that people working in logging will be killed. If the wanton destruction of property and lives is not terrorism, but somehow acceptable "activism" in support of some deluded cause, then the word terrorism has no meaning. For USA Today to publish such trash is disgusting.

I seem to recall the NAACP referring to our Atty General as a member of the Talaban wing of the Republican Party. Funny, no mention of this vicious slime by Mr. Zak.

Gee, I wonder what he thinks of the Dems planning to demonise conservative Christians as the Taliban? Or, prolife activists as "terrorists" or ....? Oh well, I know the answer to that.

Steven Zak is an attorney and writer in California

An attorney AND writer AND he's from Commiefornia???? That's what's known as a Leftist Clymer Triple Threat.

Dear Steve: We know how hard it was for you to fake being patriotic for the last four months--it must have been like swallowing live scorpions and worms.

Relax, big fella. It's best to not pretend to be something you really aren't.

Little late with that gag alert there. He should put his flags away, he is not united with us, and we are not united with him, there is a deep chism in America that runs too deep even for 9-11 to bridge.

Syndicated radio host Michael Savage described Walker's high school as a "rotting, stinking, left-wing" place. I've had progressive sympathies; what does that say about me?

Did you go to Afghanistan and take up arms against your own nation? No? Then you can go about your left-wing, "progressive" business.

Well, Mr. Zak, that says you are a communist sympathizer. Gee, that was easy, any more questions?

Boo hoo. Where was this guy when the liberal media was blaming McVeigh on conservatives? Or when conservatives like Goldwater or Reagan were attacked as fascists or racists?

The problem with these "Daily Idiot" columns is that they're written by people with no historical perspective, who are "shocked" by something they read or hear but don't realize that they have walked in on the middle of something that has been going on for a long time. They don't seem to realize that this kind of villification -- if that's what it is -- is the stuff politics and media are made of. It may be uninspiring and unedifying, and ultimately turn people off, but they're not a monopoly of any part of the political spectrum.

Had Johnny Walker grown up in a conservative Christian home and joined a militia one would have heard the same sort of attacks from the left. One person's "search for causes" becomes another person's "witchhunt." Surely no one can expect that people will stop looking for causes of some strange phenomenon.

While he may have a point about Walker, the rest of the column is written in that "daily idiot" mode by someone who is shocked to find that people argue and disagree with each other vehemently and is naive enough to think that all the name-calling comes from one side.

Or perhaps that's just a ruse. Anyway, it is foolish to think that people aren't going to criticize the positions that one takes, or indeed, to think that in taking those positions one doesn't portray others in the same light that one would object to being seen oneself.

Zak only identify's one cause to which he is committed. That is a tree hugger.

He is obviously not committed to "The AMERICAN WAY" as are most californicators who flock to the same trendy idiocy.

Flying the flag to him was following a fad. After giving it some thought, he proves that his loyalty is not to America or freedom. It is to the God of Money. Come here and fetch lawyer dog! America has a star spangled bone you can chew.

Dear Mr. Zak,

"I've had progressive sympathies; what does that say about me?"

Let's see???........What DOES that say about you?

At best - "useful idiot".

In reality - an anti-Constitution, pro-victim disarmament, anti-American, pro-abortion, pro-Nazi scum sucking windbag.

I'm sure you have some redeeming qualities, but I could care less. Basically, go phuque yourself.

The Earth Liberation Front, along with the Animal Liberation Front, about which I once wrote for The Atlantic Monthly, have been frequently described recently as terrorists posing as activists and similar to al-Qaeda — including on this page, where a column by Richard Berman railed against "these homegrown terrorists." An editorial in The Washington Times also called these groups "terrorists enjoying the freedoms of the United States," and it warned of their "online training camps."

Perhaps Mr. Zak should actually research stuff before he writes about it. ELF & ALF are and have been defined as terrorist groups for a number of years by law enforcement guys like the FBI.
