Pro-Death NY Attorney General Assaults Crisis Pregnancy Centers

Since last Friday, January 4, 2002, New York State Attorney General Elliot Spitzer, a zealous pro-abort Democrat, has launched a major legal offensive against pro-life pregnancy centers in New York City and Long Island, sending officers of his department with subpoenas to, so far, five pregnancy centers and a pro-life medical clinic, an evident first step toward targeting all such centers in the New York City area. The subpoenas allege that the pregnancy centers misrepresent their services, advise women about abortion without being "licensed to do so," and provide medical care they are not licensed to perform, and have provide inaccurate medical information on abortion. The Attorney General is requiring each center to produce a long list of documents by February 1st - "or else." The truth is that these centers advertise only under "Abortion Alternatives," use both licensed nurses and trained, competent lay advisors, and use accurate, truthful educational material on the actual risks of abortion - and on positive alternatives to abortion. Local friends of New York's pro-life pregnancy centers are scrambling to assemble a crack legal team. But meanwhile your help is urgently needed, now, to defend against this vicious attack! Here's what you can do: 1) Sign the petition below for us to forward to Attorney General Elliot Spitzer. 2) Enter the email addresses of as many pro-life people as you can so they can respond, too. 3) Contribute to the legal defense of the largest pregnancy center! Go to their website at www.expectantmothercare.org and click on the "New Threat" box. 4) Directly email Attorney General Elliot Spitzer at his website: www.oag.state.ny.us/emailag/Or call his office at (518) 474-7330. Thanks for your prayers and help for our brothers and sisters in New York City! It's bad enough that they've suffered under terrorist attacks - now they're threatened by their fellow Americans! Phil Sheldon Conservative Petitions.com PETITION AND PROTEST to New York Attorney General Elliot Spitzer Dear Sir: News reports assert you have subpoenaed five New York City area abortion- alternative-style pregnancy centers, alleging they have misrepresented their services, provided deceptive medical information, and provided advice on abortion and pregnancy without being licensed to do so. Since these centers simply provide free counseling, free information, free pregnancy testing, and in some cases free ultrasounds and free pre-natal care, your action can only be seen as a direct assault on the First Amendment rights of these centers and their staffs, as well as a threat to the liberty of women who wish to seek out advice and help from non-abortion facilities.. Sir, your selective targeting of these centers is either based upon willful misinformation from activists who are hostile to any attempt to help women from a pro-life perspective, or else it is the barefaced pursuit by you of a purely political agenda designed to attract the votes of pro-abortion individuals in an election year. I strongly protest the action you have taken. I call upon you to cease your attack on the good services provided by these compassionate help centers that have no profit motive. Thank you. Sincerely yours, Go to http://www.conservativepetitions.com/petition.html?name=new_york_preg_ctrs to sign this petition today!

advise women about abortion without being "licensed to do so,"

So I can't advise a friend about abortion without being licensed?
